Re-wire of private owned council flat

Had an electrician come round to quote for rewiring using the existing conduit. He says it can't be done and all the walls and ceilings need chasing. The other sparks who was sposed to come just didn't turn up. What a complete ball ache!

Re-wire of private owned council flat

The sockets are in conduit also, but there is no way enough for all our needs, hence the UPVC skirting idea. Yes the walls are precast concrete, but the conduit does look in good order. Is it likely that the live lighting feed in fed switch to swich, then to the fitting, in this age of...

Re-wire of private owned council flat

Has anyone got any experience of either having had done or doing a re-wire in a council flat. The reason I ask is ours needs doing. The lighting is wired in steel conduit in singles; so does this make it re-wireable?? We are considering running the ring main in UPVC skirting due to the...

    leaky cylinder joints

I did try to make sure that all the foam was removed before attaching the fittings. I must admit that I didnt thing you were supposed to use a jointing compound, but cant really see how else to get a good leak free connection!

    leaky cylinder joints

Ive just replaced an old hot water cylinder with a new foamed jobby. Used loads of PTFE tape on all the threads but some leaked. Drained it all down, put more PTFE tape on but the dam thing is still weeping, especially around the immersion and top blanking lug. Would a drop of LS-X help to...

    replacing floorboards

If you only need a few small pieces then I can't imagine it would cost too much. However you may still have a problem getting a good match. Is there somewhere else in your house where the boards are not exposed so that you can move a couple and then replace these with new.

what is the price limit for you on petrol

I don't understand farmers don't start growing rape seed, convert it into oil and sell it to us to power all our diesel cars. They would have to pay tax on it, but sounds like a cool way to save to environment! Loads and loads of fields of lovely yellow flowers. :D

    Old Flourescant Light Fitting.

Thanks admin for posting the piccies :) Thanks for checking again spark123, and if I could get a straight swap that wouldn't involve changes to the ceiling then I would do. The ones I've seen that might do the trick are slighly too large and hence difficult to secure in the ceiling. Not...

    Old Flourescant Light Fitting.

There are four connectors on the chokes, and the working tube is not a slimeline one. I tried a slimeline replacement and it didnt work even where the working tube was, which sounds like your comment spark123. I have since tried swaping the working choke and capacitor around, but it only...

    Old Flourescant Light Fitting.

I have an old three tube flourescant light fitting which is now down to its last tube. The other two tubes aren't working but when I put the working tube in place of the others the just glow at the ends very slightly. Now the fitting is part of the ceiling, which means I would prefer to fit...

    Loosing mortar from roof valley.

We had some roof repairs made about 3 years ago but the mortar around the valley is crumbling and falling out. Does 3 years sound too soon for this to be happening? It appears that this aspect and the mortar around the verges are not covered in any guarantee. I am going to repair the work...

    Paint disposal

We still seem to be way behind the rest of Europe when it comes to recycling. Having said that our local council do make an effort in terms of providing bins for green (garden) material as well as a box for plastic and tins, and a bag for paper. They also did a trial cardboard collection for...
