    Put the wires into the correct terminals of each switch ( with the power switched off). Test the circuit with appropriate test equipment and then switch the power back on, the light will then work as required.

    8 divided by 2 equals 4. the diagram is for two lamps. you are trying to wire one. Can you not see how that diagram equates to what you are doing? Best to leave it alone, I think.

    Quite true if there are no fumes. But would you risk it? If so, can you give us a practical demonstration and place a video of it on here for us to watch. I very much doubt if you will take me up on this.

    Would you try to see how close you could hold a match to a petrol tank before it exploded?. I dont think there are any definitve rules to this, but would you do it?. Why would someone want to rest cables on hot pipework?

    It is a refreshing change to see someone on here ask a question, listen to the varying advice and make a sound judgement themselves based on the advice given.

    Although you could replace the fuses with mcb's, it looks like you need 7. It would probably work out cheaper to buy a new consumer unit. If you search around, you can get full units for £50 - £80.
