No problem - it was the sort of reply I was expecting to get - i know how people dont like to post what could end up being - 'dangerous' info on here. :) Exactly same for gas queries. Cheers anyway

New CU - Circuit layout - shop

Hi guys, my boss owns a small sandwich shop thats been plagued by rodents running under the floors from neighbouring properties - and stopping off (drive-thru style) to nibble at the cabling for the premises. Unsurprisingly causing loads of problems. It now needs most of the circuits...

OSO Direct 20 RD Water Heater Problem

Hi, I would agree that the lower element (economy 7 one) is the likely culprit, but to be sure it would be wise for you to confirm a problem with it, prior to proceeding. This would involve turning off the power, removing wires from the immersion element and then measuring the...

    Vailant eco tech pro

When you say a vaillant timeclock - I presume the 130 (analogue mech clock) that clips into the front panel? Is there an external roomstat - the switched connection from that should be wired to terminals 3 & 4 on main PCB connector. If no stat 3 & 4 should be bridge with link. If above is...

Test button is easiest + first to check - does receiver green light come on when test pressed?

BAXI COMBI 105 HE- no central heating?

Yeah height of british summer an all that! OK, as baxmax said, there is normally an override button/switch on the receiver for the stat mounted/wired near the boiler - that would then tell you if there is a problem with the boiler or controls. What stat is it? Make/model? Analogue/digital?

    worcester 24cbi boiler

Ok you missed a couple of my questions - I'll guess that this problems happens regardless of system being hot/cold. I imagine there is NO heat coming out of the boiler due to short burner cycle. The constant light stands for Overheat, but I don't see why it would get to that stage after only...

BAXI COMBI 105 HE- no central heating?

Turn CH dial on boiler up to max. Do you have a roomstat somewhere? Turn that up as well. If its a manual type you should hear it 'click' when its turned above the current ambient temp. If its a digital one - the screen would normally show a flame or similar to indicate demand. If its...

    worcester 24cbi boiler

Is the lockout light flashing or steady? Does the boiler have this problem when cold/hot? When you say lights for 2 seconds - are you going by the 'Burner on' light? When was the appliance last serviced?

    Moving bathroom - New en-suite - Wastes

Ok thanks for taking the time to respond richard. Looks like I'll be telling him we need to pass the soil back out thru the wall behind WC, then vent it up the wall some. Only prob is, was hoping to keep pipe in the floor, but gonna have to bring it above floor to go out wall, else would need...

    Moving bathroom - New en-suite - Wastes

Hi richard, thanks for replying. The stud wall is between what will be a bathroom, and a small ensuite for the main bedroom - think he is planning on insulating anyway. Basic room layout Separate connections to stack would be difficult at best - not to mention ugly with all the...

    Moving bathroom - New en-suite - Wastes

Ok thanks for all the comments regarding BCO - i shall push this fact on with my friend. Other than the above any comments as to proposed design/layout. AAV likely required? OK with bath an sinks joined - keep shower tray on separate waste? Ta

    Moving bathroom - New en-suite - Wastes

Thought it might be - when I told my friend, he said thats OK, since apparently he knows someone in council - either way he didn't seem to bothered. I got the impression whether it was 'allowed' or not, he'd be going ahead with it anyway  ...so may as well give him a hand

    Moving bathroom - New en-suite - Wastes

yes he is, the current bathroom is on the right of the top photo, the soil pipe coming into the picture from right is the bathroom wc with smaller pipe below it being the other wastes. He's built a stud wall in one of the bedrooms to divide it off (for a ensuite) then knocked hole thru for...

    Moving bathroom - New en-suite - Wastes

Hi guys, hope someone (or all!) can help! I've been asked by a mate to give him a hand moving his bathroomand making a small ensuite. I dont normally get involved with the waste side of things so we wanted to run the general ideas past you for vetting... Below are a couple of pics to give...

    Mini Expansion Vessel?

As per posts above - they want a mini EV, to take up any expansion / water hammer effects on the cold mains/DHW circuit, likely due to customer being on water meter. Water meter installs usually (always?) include a check valve in the circuit - therefore WB dont want high static pressure...

    Replacement boiler question

Yes there are still some floor-standing boilers around, roughly the same size by Potterton/Ideal etc. They even do a 'A' rated Ideal Mexico! This could give you an idea of the sort of output req'd : Clicky

    Replacement boiler question

montesol - you seem to be associating replacement condensing boiler with a combi? This does not have to be the case - can have your current boiler replaced with similar one - only addition normally required would be a condense pipe. Minimal alteration usually req'd to current piping -...

Can I relocate a double socket this way?

Not a sparky, but if you plan on boarding over back of cupboard - and therefore old socket which you have plug into - then I think no - since you will be concealing a junction. If the back of the cupboard is left open into alcove - i.e. existing socket fully accessible - then possibly OK -...

    Balanced flue metal grill

Yes the terminal needs a guard (wire cage) over it if its less than 2m from the ground OR if it is in a position where it is likely for someone to be able to touch it - such as next to stairs etc... Given that its over the 2m guideline - is there something else nearby that they could be...
