Will cylinder thermostat setting effect rad temp?

We have a 'W' plan heating system (hot water priority), and I was wondering if the cylinder thermostat setting has any effect on the radiator temps. At the moment, the hot water is very hot indeed, practically scalding. But the radiators very rarely get what I'd call 'hot', just very warm...

    Honeywell wiring centre

Hi guys, I have a Honeywell wiring centre No. 42005748-001 and the terminal for connecting the mid-pos valve has 6 connections......grn/yel ,brown , grey, blue, orange and white. The problem is my valve has only 5 wires, all the above minus the brown. Do I just ignore the brown...

    Heating is pathetic

I've posted here once or twice in the past about various problems concerning my central heating system but have never seemed to have sorted them out completely, or at best only to a limited degree. The boiler is a Potterton Netaheat 10-16 Mk II F. Pump is regular Grundfoss. The...

Rad needs bleeding twice a day

Thanks guys. JohnD, I last put inhibitor in last summer, after backflushing all rads, in both directions. I'll have to wait for the weekend before I can check things up in the loft tho, will get back to you on that. 8)

Rad needs bleeding twice a day

The radiator in our bathroom (12x18) fills with air at least twice a day! It has always needed bleeding every few days or so, but has suddenly gone silly. As I bleed it, I can hear air bubbling into it, and if I wait after bleeding, there is a semi-constant "bloop......bloop-bloop......bloop" as...

Mains flush.......now worse than before !

Right, to answer your question Alfredo, the system did work ok up until last winter, I say 'ok' because I have an update on the situation. The pump began to make intermittant screeching noises, then went quiet for a while. Next day, went to local heating shop and chatted...

Mains flush.......now worse than before !

As far as I can be. I have flushed the rads from both directions to ensure this. I turned all the upstairs rads off, and hot water began to travel to the downstairs rads, although it (only got one turned on) only got warm, and not hot. But as soon as I cracked an upstairs...

Mains flush.......now worse than before !

Ok...........drained down and checked the gatevalves...........damn....they were both open.... ...........So removed the pump and opened it up, looked a bit nasty, but certainly not blocked with gunge... But, did notice quite a bit of endfloat in the shaft. So, decided to refit the...

Mains flush.......now worse than before !

Thanks guys, I hope that's what the problem is..................gonna drain down tomorrow and hopefully will find a nailed gatevalve....... Is there any reason for not using a normal stopcock instead of a gate valve............or are they only used on coldwater pipes..??..excuse me...

Mains flush.......now worse than before !

I decided to perform a mains flush on my system, because I had taken the downstairs rads off and flushed them out, and got a load of black water out of them. (they have been cold all winter, but upstairs have been hot ish). So I closed the two gate valves on the feed and return, and...

    Possible pump failure....or not?

Ok, I'v decided it's the wrong time of the year to be draining down the system, and posibly making things worse that they are. So my plan of action is to put some sentinel X400 in and leave it there til the heating isn't needed ..............spring time. Then get stuck in and sort the problem...

    Possible pump failure....or not?

The reason I was given not to use anything 'nasty' like fernox, was because he reckoned that if any part of my system 'had worn a bit thin' then using such a vicious cleaner might cause a leak. My system isn't rusty, but it's probably oldish, don't ask me how old tho. (That Magna clean device...

    Possible pump failure....or not?

Corgiman, what's a TDS meter? Heyyouitsme, yes the system worked ok when pump was replaced. I guess over time the reduction in efficiency was gradual so that I didn't notice until the second winter came around and the rads didn't get so hot. The pump works all summer in hot water mode...

    Possible pump failure....or not?

Hi guys, finally got round to posting. I have a long term central heating problem. We moved here about 11 yrs ago, and all was ok for a few years. (It looks like a DIY heating system) Then problems started to raise their heads....noisy vibrating pump, radiators not getting very...
