    Steel lintel fitting

Thanks noseall In principle I agree with you but you and I both know that the loads specified for these beams are for ideal conditions and when have you and I ever come acrosss these  There are always other factors of load/structure to take into account. I was just concerned over...

oh and depends on the user also. If you're in the trade then you would probably need the dogs b......s as you will be using the damm thing all the time but if you are a diyer then perhaps a cheaper tool would be ok as you're not using it as much :D Not disrespect intended to diyers but...

    bathroom from start to finish.

Agreed but to get the best gear it costs an arm and a leg and i have found that most of my customers don't want to go to the expense. I did say after all that I recommend you don't fit it I didn't say do not under any circumstances. If you want to go down this route then please get someone...

    customers that do not pay

I really feel for ben the gas man as this has also happened to me. All of you have given great advice but I think the one thing that is p.....g ben off is the fact that they have taken cheap shots at the quality of his work. Keep your chin up ben it will all come clean in the wash eventually...

If you would like my opinion as a time served vet I would advice anyone against fitting laminate floor in any wet area - kitchen, bathroom, ensuite, utility - no matter what it says on the pack

NEED RECOMENDATION FOR A CORDLESS 18V IMPACT DRIVER

There are simply loads of good 18v tools out there but take into consideration your max budget and see what you can buy. You cant go far wrong with Makita, dewalt, bosch and if your budget allows try and go with a Lion, (Lithium Ion), battery tool as these are much lighter than their Nimh brothers

    MAKING A PADSTONE HELP

I am fairly certain you can get this size from Jewsons or if you have a branch near to you you could try elliotts. Its not the exact size but its pretty close. Failing that have a chat with the lads at Readymix 0870 3368221 and they should be able to give you a spec for this mix

    Steel lintel fitting

Well at least I make sure the job is done correctly! "OOH lets put in an over spec beam that should do it" Over spec to what and on what do you base this surely this must be some sort of calculation. All I can say is im glad you are not doing any work on my house. God help us

So what happened to the insulation!! Sorry softus its not an alternative its the right way to do it. You do not lay concrete over the bricks without first laying down a sand blinding  The Right Way :D An awful lot of hard work breaking up old bricks which incidently have to be...

    Steel lintel fitting

You are all raving mad  Sorry but I disagree with all of you. A structural supporting wall requires the attention of an engineer so removal and support can be carried out correctly. In this way if the beam fails it is the engineer that is responsible to rectify the problem...

    Bouncy Floor

Get hold of a cordless skill saw - mine is a dewalt 24volt - I don't mean buy one but try and borrow one or hire it. Cordless will help if the space is confined eg no trailing lead. Try and find our the thickness of the board and set the plate of the saw to that depth. don't forget to lock...

    Mains powered smoke alarms,

Mains smoke alarms should be on their own circuit with mcb and if more than one interconnected with 3 core and earth. Off the lighting circuit or any other circuit is not desirable. Go and buy a good quality mains smoke alarm and you will find the instructions are very comprehensive with...

    Understairs cloakroom (again)

Beware. Have you enough room to fit a toilet and possibly a basin? as many building control departments will insist on a basin being fitted if the location is close to the kitchen. You will also have to fit an extractor fan. You will need to weigh up all this V the cost
