A bit too risky for me. I'm not brave enough! :D

    Painting door frames

I don't know. It was pretty good tape as I recall. I think it may have been hard to get a good seal though as the wood on threshold was very grainy. If masking tape is the way to go with this I'll give it another go. :)

    Painting door frames

Are there any tips for painting door frames so as to avoid getting paint on the wooden threshold at the bottom? I've tried using masking tape in the past, but the paint seems to bleed, so when removing the tape, the edge where the frame meets the wood is not crisp. :( Any advice is welcome. :)

    Doors, Frames and Hinges

OK thanks. I'll give some thought to getting a bit of hardwood! :)

    Doors, Frames and Hinges

Thanks for the advice. The doors I'm replacing only have two hinges on them. They are fairly lightweight as they are only 24" wide. Glass panel with wood frames. It seems I haven't used the correct terms when describing the last issue. I'm replacing what was already there, and I'm not...

    Doors, Frames and Hinges

I'm replacing two doors and both frames in an outside porch, but am uncertain on a couple of things. (three to be exact!) Both doors will be hung on the left hand side of frames. How much gap is recommended for the lock side of door? I'm thinking about 3mm. Would that be enough do you think...

Water based exterior paint for new and existing paintwork

It's just a personal preference. I want to use something that stays white longer. Water based ticks that box. I also want to avoid using spirits for cleaning brushes as it causes me a problem. Again, water based solves that problem for me. :) As for oil being more durable, you may well be...

Water based exterior paint for new and existing paintwork

Thanks for the suggestion on the Sadolin Superdec. :) They include a White Satin finish in their range, which is what I'd prefer. I'm not a painter, and gloss has always driven me crazy as I've never been satisfied with the end result! I found it at Decorating Warehouse. It's expensive, but...

Water based exterior paint for new and existing paintwork

I've been in touch with Screwfix about Leyland Trade Satin Fast Drying Paint. They say I don't need a primer or undercoat with this. Just two coats of this onto bare wood will apparently do the job. It's not suitable for overcoating existing oil based paint however. They are recommending I...

Water based exterior paint for new and existing paintwork

Hello Folks, I'm after a recommendation for a good paint that is suitable for a project I'm working on. I really want to use a water based paint and avoid any oil type paints for this job. The job entails renovating my back porch. Two new doors, new door frames and replacing some of the...
