Will my floating floor float away?

oh I agree there'd be no problem floating it, I just hope it holds in place and doesn't slide into the 10mm expansion gaps at one of the ends :)

    Replacing staircase string and spindles

I'd be interested to hear any comments on this too as I'm in a similar situation. I removed the balusters so I could renovate the staircase more easily but since a good few were in poor condition, I thought I'd replace the lot. However turns out that they upgraded the balusters specs and now...

    Saltbox roof = drafty

ok so let me rework that a little :) Should I have a breeze blowing through my floor from the eaves at the back, to the wall at the front (effectively a dead end)? If that was the intention then shouldn't there be airbricks in that wall to let the breeze through? Note: Due to my roof...

Will my floating floor float away?

Hello all, Having just read a few threads on this forum about fitting kitchen units 'before' laying laminate flooring, I now see that this is the best way forward. However, I have a long narrow kitchen and I'm a little concerned that my floating floor may not have enough weight to hold...

    Saltbox roof = drafty

Hi, I have an Asymmetric roof which is causing me some real problems with drafts. I believe the Americans would call it a salt box roof, not sure if it goes by that name over here though. Best way I can explain it is from the front, my roof starts at the 1st floor ceiling level, and at the...

Another Double Insulated lighting question :)

Perfect! This fitting is upstairs so fully accessible from the attic. I was contemplating a wagobox for the same light which will be fitted downstairs and only accessible via the hole in the ceiling as you say. Many thanks :)

Another Double Insulated lighting question :)

I was going to remove the small connector block as suggested and replace it with a 3 way choc bloc in a choc box. That way I can terminate the earth in the choc box and then have only the live and neutral continue to the light fitting.

Another Double Insulated lighting question :)

Hi John, the fitting takes two bulbs, I've only had one in there while I took the picture. So the connector block has 4 wires going into it, 2 live and two neutral, from each of the bulb fittings. Changing the block to a three way sounds like the way to go. Thought didn't even enter my head :)

Another Double Insulated lighting question :)

Hello, I've just bought this light... http://www.astrolighting.co.uk/Denia-0587 and I'm just wondering about the best way to deal with the earth. The current ceiling rose is connected via a junction box, so no concerns about loop-in-out. The feed wire is currently a 1.5mm2 twin and...

Possible to vent extractor fan through this wall?

When drilling a 4" hole through this type of set up, is there a preference where? For example, is it better to have the centre point in the middle of a brick, taking out a whole brick, or in the mortar joint, taking out half a brick each? Thanks d.

Possible to vent extractor fan through this wall?

That was my next concern :) I was thinking of extending the vent pipe out a little and putting a 45 degree bend on it to channel the exhast fumes out towards the center of my garden. Fortunately the prevailing winds come from the correct direction, so in the majority of cases, the exhaust...

Possible to vent extractor fan through this wall?

Yep, 1 year on and I'm just about to pick this job up again :) (I've been REALLY busy... Promise!) I've posted some pics below detailing the setup and would like some advice on whether this is a safe place to drill a 4 or 5" hole for my cooker extractor fan. i.e. is my back wall likely to...
