    Water stains under sloping roof

Looks to me like lack of ventilation. Still like to see the roof.

    Roof tile croppers

Stihl saw every time for me. Used to use nibbler but doesn't always produce such a neat cut especially in a virgin roofers hand never mind with my 29 years roofing practice

Marine grade ply vs OSB for garage roof

The roofer probably suggested marine ply because a lot of customer see Osb boards as deluxe chipboard. Marine ply is superior to standard ply boards which can bow and separate. We used osb when it first came out but after a few issues we went back to marine ply. Now osb 3 is out we have gone...

    lead flashing

We always use soakers with slates. Make sure you put them on top of each slate so it is supported not under the slate because it will sag. The slate above will cover it up. When you try you will understand what I mean :)

Birds getting in under dry verge?

Still look like early Marley dry verge units. Don't make these no more

    Low pitch help

I would marine ply the roof then use a quality felt system on it and skip the tiles

    lead flashing

Does your roof have slates or tiles like the picture? Either way the correct procedure is indiviidual lead soakers on the tiles first, then your cover flashings. The cover flashings dont then have to drape over the tiles like the picture.

    Don't know?

Roof leaking along joint with older roof

I would remove the vents and strip back slates and tiles to allow the fitting of a bonding gutter. Cost wise I would allow £400 plus scaffold( if access is poor for ladder working) Steve

    Replacement work van

I took the plunge into new van ownership a good few years ago, it was the best thing I did. Alright you still get abuse off the battered transit brigade about being flash but it all boils down to how you waste your money. Tax wise it pays to go new and you dont tie all your cash up because it...

    Replacement work van

A new van will open more doors. Who would you employ to do work round your house..... the chap in the new van whos business is obviously doing well or the chap with the oil dripping transit who looks like he doesnt care. It will cost you less in the long term but what do I know. Three...

New roof for a loft conversion

New roof for a loft conversion

Get another quote, if he changes things before he starts the job what's he going to do later on? Talk to your roofer about the tiles before you accept his quote then at least you both know where you stand You need to look at your plans & speak to your building inspector to discuss...

Birds getting in under dry verge?

They look like Marley verge units. With the Marley ones you have a purpose made starter verge which has a stopper built in, but looking at your neighbours units it appears it has been modified with a saw. The biggest issue with verges is that the door knockers who own caravans con joe public...

    Marley Modern

Run the bottom course in so as you have a full tile on the verge( tile this course in backwards if you like) When you cut your half tiles only measure the tile and ignore the interlock channel that will be hidden when you tile. The half that has the interlock on show is for the right hand...

    Replacement work van

With a budget of 4k I would buy or lease a new van. It would boost the quality of your business and bring in a new section of customers. You will always get the muppets who regard you as flash but for a few quid a month you can be proud to turn up on any job. I always buy new and get rid...
