    Tripping

We have an intermittent issue with this thing tripping. The meter tails are on one side and the other side is the CU. The CU looks fairly new. The tripping has been very intermittent - like every 9-12 months it might trip in the past, but in the last 24 hours it's tripped 4 times. I've never...

    Tightness test, allowable pressure drop

I've wondered for years why there is an allowable pressure drop when doing a tightness test? I get that small changes to temperature might affect the reading, but once stable after a couple of minutes and (eg) no-one is touching any pipe, why would a drop be allowed? I'm sure there is a reason...

Cause of float switch triggering - dishwasher

We have a dishwasher that, after a few washes (eg 6), triggers the float switch, which then stops the machine working, as water is collecting at the base of the machine. When it triggers, I can tip the dishwasher backwards (which has the effect of removing the excess water), enabling me to use...

Vaillant Turbomax Plus 824E … can a thermostat be connected? (Ed.)

Inherited an old boiler with apparently not any real controls (thermostat), it’s a Vallant Turbomax Plus 824E. I know this is old, but can a thermostat be connected to this? If so what model would work? I don’t need all singing, but I do need to have some controls rather than the cold-hot dial...

    Removing old pipe

This pipe is leaking. I’d like to get the rusted and leaking part replaced. Can anyone tell me what this pipe is, and how I could feed into 22mm or 15mm copper pipe please? Thank you

Plywood floor before laying stick down planks

Really sorry - loads of previous ply questions, but I can’t see an answer. I have joists 40cm apart, I want to lay ply, and am looking at 22-25mm ply, and then sealing and laying stick down planks, but: - softwood ply? - hardwood ply? - marine ply? - structural ply? Is any thick (22mm-25mm)...

    Outside Stop Cock

Hi guys - I have one of those long rods with the curved hit which is useful to turn off a stop-clock outside the premises, but I’ve just come across one which is a 30mm square and would need a different tool - can someone tell me what tool I need and or give me a link to buy? Thank you

    What fuse for this appliance?

This is a Sololift c-3 pumping station, with 640w power, which I assume would take a 3A fuse. But just looking at the spec and it says Full Load Current is 3.1A? Does that m Ed n I should put in. 5A fuse and not a 3A?

    Trippin’

I have an boiler on a separate circuit. Every now and again it trips at the CU ONLY when it is initially turned on. When I flip the switch back on at the CU the boiler is OK. It gets turned off every night, and it is usually OK for 2-3 weeks, but then sometimes when I turn it on again it will...

    Lighting black and grey wires

Removed an old light, identified the switched live (which I’ve now placed a brown sleeve on (didn’t have one before). I should’ve taken a before photo (won’t make that error again!), The blue neutral and switched live are for the lamp, and I believed the two other wires (black and grey)...
