    Kitchen Tiling

This is a time when we all hope and pray for bad workmanship. I re-did my kitchen walls just before Christmas and wasn't looking forward to stripping the tiles and anticipated that before I started, it would be a re-plastering job. Anyhow, got the bolster and hammer out and the tiles literally...

    Thermostatic valves

Thanks for the replies. The idea of resting them on the floor seems a good one. I'll just murder the bloody kids if they go near them!

    Thermostatic valves

I've got two radiators to take off whilst decorating both of which have thermostatic valves. I've got to line the walls and then paper, obviously leaving a good amount of time between for the lining to dry out. When I've done it before, the valves drip and I've been told that because they are...

ceramic or porcelain floor tiles ?

As GCOL said, porcelain is much harder wearing. Go to a proper tile shop rather than places like B&Q. You'll get much better value for money, much better advice and better continuous availability should you run out or need extras a year or two later

    Wallpapering round corners

I'm in the process of doing the hall stairs and landing in our house which is an old Victorian jobby. Hence the walls are appalling, however will be lined before papering. I'm putting up a heavily embossed paper with a geometric sort of pattern. The external corners are all rounded, having...

    Bathroom antics

Granfix do a new adhesive called multifix which is suitable for fixing marble. This is a ready mixed, self priming adhesive which saves a lot of messing about with cement based powders if the tiles don;t need bedding too thickly, which as they are mosaics they probably won't. Although it is...

    Tile or Carpet

Ask yourself the same question but put a different slant on it. When re-wiring your house would you plaster over the cables or leave them open on the bare brick wall just in case a fault develops. Same question but apply it to water pipes. Would you run them between the cavities in your walls...

sealant after grouting floor tiles - does it exist??

You basically have 2 choices. 1 Use an epoxy grout which is non porous and therefore resists stains. Downside to it is that it is more difficult than normal water based grout to clean off and is comparitively expensive. 2 Use normal floor grout (flexible if porcelain or wood floor, etc.)...
