    Worcester 24i Combi won't light?

Hi in the absence of a manual, here are some symptoms from a Worcester 24i combo: Red light on front is on and steady When CH or HW is requested the pump kicks in but the boiler doesn't light, nor does it seem to go through any ignition sequence I suspected the boiler needed re-set, and...

    Pump over-run - location for by-pass valve

Sorry I probably didn't explain it properly ? The inlet of the by-pass valve is connected after the pump, and the outlet is connected after the zone valve, therefore there will always be flow if the by-pass valve lifts as there is one radiator without a TRV. It's working fine and been...

    Pump over-run - location for by-pass valve

Thanks but not possible. The pump is in the airing cupboard upstairs, and obviously the by-pass valve has to be fitted after the pump. Problem is, that I cant get to the common return pipe. Its also very tight round about the boiler (under a kitchen worktop). Having talked to the guys that...

    Pump over-run - location for by-pass valve

Thanks to both of you - Having done a bit of trawling, I'd come to the conclusion that DH has suggested - its simpler to fit an automatic by-pass valve. That of course takes me back to the original problem, I cant get at the common return pipe at all ! Question; is it feasible to fit an...

    Pump over-run - location for by-pass valve

Ok sounds like a plan - I take it the wiring wont need major surgery? ie re-wiring 2 x 2port to 3 port valve

    Pump over-run - location for by-pass valve

Ok thanks - I kinda thought that if both DHW or heating weren't calling for heat, then both of the 'out' ports would be closed.... What about wiring? Currently there are 2 wires to each 2 way valve, I take it you can use the same connections ?

    Pump over-run - location for by-pass valve

Thanks Could you elaborate please? do you mean use a 3 way valve instead of 2 x 2 way valves? Surely if both were closed I'd still need a bypass for the pump over-run? I cant fit the Manaclean anywhere else, as the return pipe is under the floor and there is no room at the boiler. When...

    Pump over-run - location for by-pass valve

Thanks, I should have said that the primary return is either under the floor or wall, so can't get at it without major wall surgery. That's why the magnaclean is located where it is too ! Comments noted on solenoid valves, they are bout 15 years old-but still working ! Due a change probably !

    Pump over-run - location for by-pass valve

Hi, I'm about to get new Potterton condensing boiler fitted which has a pump over-run feature, basically to take any excess heat away from the boiler after its been switched off from the programmer. Therefore a by-pass valve will need to be fitted after the pump (to the return line) to...

    Split Board General Question

Gosh worm can well & truly opened? TBH, I anticipated a mixed reply on this, and it looks as though there is a balance between common sense, and taking regulations to the nth degree. I think that every post on this has some good points, and as ever with regulation, its how its interpreted...

    Split Board General Question

Whilst I understand the concept of split boards ie, RCD protected or not, could anyone enlighten me for a general house application, on what circuits normally would be protected by the RCD and what wouldnt? I know that 'mission critical circuits' shouldnt go via the RCD (fire alarms etc), but...

    RCD Keeps Tripping

Thanks, Tightened up the wires, a couple were quite loose so I'll wait and see over the weekend if it trips again - been a few days now since it last tripped, which it was doing few times a day until i pulled the fuse. Like you say, could be the oxidisation on the fuse blades, or weather...

    RCD Keeps Tripping

No its not tripped at all since I had the main fuse out - weird. I'll certainly tighten the screws (not the red ones.....lol)

    RCD Keeps Tripping

Could I unashamedly bump this up in case someone has an explanation? 2 days on, and the RCD still hasn't tripped again - confused? I certainly am...

Fitting a Magnaclean - Installation Location on System

Well I'm truly sorry if Ive offended your ego, or my follow-up post doesn't match your experience or opinions of this product. I haven't offered any advice to anyone, and nor would I profess to be an expert in heating systems, so perhaps you should cut some people a wee bit of slack when they...

Fitting a Magnaclean - Installation Location on System

Jeeso, I was only trying to helpful & objective with a follow-up ! Perhaps I'm a DIY'er, but being a Chartered Engineer, & having worked as a design engineer for many years, I'm not completely devoid of intelligence in these matters. The original post was to gain advice on a product...

    Boiler scrappage Scotland

Sorry but you are entirely wrong: - spoke directly with the Scottish Energy Savings Trust on this very topic some time ago, all that is required is a gas safe installer and the estimated cost of the work. The gas safe number is verified automatically at registration and the voucher was issued...

    Boiler scrappage Scotland

The customer is allocated a voucher, where the 400 quid can be redeemed after installation by any gas safe engineer. Got my voucher on Monday morning, and so did my neighbour - my mate is doing both installations. Incidentally, all the vouchers have now been allocated, so there is £2M quid...

Fitting a Magnaclean - Installation Location on System

Could I just close this thread (maybe) with an update: The Magnaclean has now been on the system for a few weeks. I've also had all the radiators off and flushed them through thoroughly, then ran the system with sludge remover. Ive had the Magnaclean off & on probably every few days, and...
