    Reglossing

Unless your bathroom is large (probably not), I'd just sand by hand with a block.

    Sealant

Generally you can either use decorator's caulk (paintable), or silicon sealant (not paintable).

Stripped wallpaper - state of walls?

You could sand that, but it would take a very long time; I'd have it skimmed.

    Food forethought

I think it's hilarious how some random group says 'this should be done', and a news article opens with 'this might happen!'. I hate people who talk down the phone as if they were at a football match, not a quiet office.

    Paint recommendations please

Johnstones Aqua is supposed to be pretty good. I used Crown non-drop satin; don't use that, it was terrible.

    Paint recommendations please

if you include effort, it's certainly cheaper to replace it. ;)

Painting pitted and half painted Room

As above, it will take a long time to sort out bad walls with an orbital sander and some filler. It would be easier to get it skimmed, and probably quicker to learn how to skim yourself.

    Paint recommendations please

I'd be pretty tempted to rip off the skirting and replace it; that might just be me.

    Draughty Home Air Vent

Open the windows during the day, and close them in the evening; as above, the notion that you can have a sealed(ish) building and not end up with condensation and mould is insane.

    Paint or spray paint?

No problem - I recommend doing it when there's good ventilation, as it can get a bit smelly.

    Paint or spray paint?

When I used a heat gun to remove the shrink on an MDF bath panel, I painted with a brush. Two coats of primer, quick de-nib with a light sand, and then on with the base and top coats. I used some tinted permawhite, as it's what I had.

We need to talk about Kevin, sorry, I mean ban-all-sheds

Nothing good can come from this thread. I will also add that I've yet to see a forum turn into a nanny state, and live on as more than an empty shell.

    Too many downlights

Most people don't want bedrooms or living rooms to be a startling wash of bright white light, it's about as relaxing as walking on glass. I agree that a single pendant is not optimal, and several lights should be employed for varying degrees. It's all entirely subjective, of course.

    Too many downlights

To be fair, he's not wrong though; downlighters are pretty s**t.

    Too many downlights

Yes, I recently replaced my Father's 40W GU10 downlighters with these: http://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-gu10-led-lamp-250lm-4w-pack-of-10/5412d Ten new use the same power as one of the old.

Remove water marks on bathroom wall

It means you're getting condensation, which can easily mark flat paints. Improve ventilation if condensation levels are too high, but you cna definitely make life easier using a silk paint, which is easy to wipe down and won't mark. I used Zinsser Permawhile in our bathroom.

Newly skimmed walls/ceiling in bathroom - what primer?

When I did my bathroom, I thinned some cheap emulsion 70/30 and applied it before the Permawhite. Good paint choice, by the way.

    Do manufacturers overestimate their coverage?

Yes, manufacturers are always using the best possible case scenario for coverage; much like you'll never hit your car's best MPG. Disregard the coverage estimates and work off how much you're using. If you've used the paint heavily when cutting in, you'll certainly get cracking as you've...

    Cracked bathroom paint

Hi Guyan, I'd scrape off anything loose, and then sand down to get it smooth. You are going to have some mess, but you only have to clean up once! ;)

We Need These Signs On Our Motorways!

Yes, unfortunately. Thankfully you don't get 'too' many on motorways, and they're normally easy enough to spot. I've never had a ticket; now that I've written this, I'll get 5 on the way home.
