good idea to speak to planning and BCO if the house has already had any sort of extension it may have used up any permitted development allowances the existing stair (ground to first floor) angle does not need to be changed (to 42 or less) just the new stairs to the loft conversion

roof joists...can i nail stuff to them?

    # They be Rafters Monkey boy  4 x 7 (100mm x 175mm) rafters do sound massive but it all depends on the span and pitch Also are you 8 stone dripping wet or 18 stone on a good day? You may have to check the weather forecast on the days you want to spend 'hanging out' in the...

Mick, shoot me if im wrong but............ polyethelene is just another name for polythene (visqueen type material) . I think (if you mean the kingspan/celotex/xtratherm insulations) youre refering to polyurethane which is as you say better at insulating than polystyrene, and as my...

    Airbricks in Lean-To

    Footings

the bottom of your foundations must be lower than the bottom of your drains. (if you put them above they would crush and block the drain!) the actual depth of your foundations will depend on the ground conditions. a reasonable guide may be to the same depth of your existing foundations...

Soil/vent pipe terminates in roof space....

i would guess the valve is an air admittance valve (Durgo). You should have another normal SVP on the property to give ventilation of the drain.

    building

if the roof has originally been designed as a flat roof then it is unlikely to have been designed to take floor loads for an extra storey - i would expect that the flat roof would need to be replace OR maybe steel beams could be installed below the conc beams at right angles to reduce their span...
