Free standing garden wall and support pillars?

Thanks for the replies, all. I went around and spoke to the main contractor this morning. They are indeed putting pillars in; they're on the other side that's not visible to me, as woody suggested may the the case. They're also doing expansion joints. Thanks for the feedback and advice...

Free standing garden wall and support pillars?

It's 1 100mm block in width. As for wind direction; it's a three sided wall, so the length of each span (20m plus) is so long that I don't think it's going to get adequate support from the corners and at least one section is going to get the full on prevailing winds. Are there building regs...

Free standing garden wall and support pillars?

My next door neighbour has a contractor in building him a very long (20m plus) 2m high garden wall from 100mm blocks. I'm a bit concerned that he doesn't seem to be putting *any* support pillars in place. I thought that this would be a requirement? I'm not wanting to cause any trouble but...

Worcester 35CDi II rads warm when water on

As the title says we have a heating system based on a Worcester 35CDi II combi and have just noticed warm radiators after heavy use of the shower this morning (we have guests staying!) There's no noticeable lowering of the hot water temperature and heating is set to off, but all rads valves...

Drained a gravity fed hot water tank, now no pressure

...yes, thank you - it was actually your reply that convinced me to take a couple of other posts on other forums seriously. I didn't have a hose that would fit but the idea of finger over a mixer seemed a plausible alternative. I nearly didn't do it for fear of the pressure causing problems...

Drained a gravity fed hot water tank, now no pressure

Thanks for the suggestions all. Sorted out now. :) It was either an air lock and/or a blockage in the vent. Turning the hot on the new mixer tap an then slowly opening the cold with my finger over the outlet sorted it with about a five second burst! If anything the flow is better now than...

Drained a gravity fed hot water tank, now no pressure

Thanks for the suggestion; I've already tried that. It caused very dirty water (brown) to be expelled for a short time, but unfortunately afterwards the flow was even less. :(

Drained a gravity fed hot water tank, now no pressure

Hi! This weekend my son had a problem with a leaking tap tail in his bathroom. I "fixed" it by replacing the entire tap and tails (the whole lot was old and grotty) but I also had some issues with the isolation vales so ended up replacing those too. To do that I drained the system; turned the...

Dripping ABS (?) Shower bar - repair or replace?

Thanks, Terry. That's kind of what I was thinking. Any recommendations for something that's going to last a little longer than the three years this one did, without costing an arm and a leg?

Dripping ABS (?) Shower bar - repair or replace?

Was your daughters similar to this one? When you say "prised out the end cap" is that the grey bits on the ends? Do they come out complete with that (what looks like a) moulded bar?

Dripping ABS (?) Shower bar - repair or replace?

Water is dripping slowly out of the hose when the shower is off. I know it's possible to replace valve cartridges, but a) I'm not 100% sure what make/model it is, so don't know what to order and b) if my assumption that it's an ABS is correct I don't seem to be able to find ABS spares and can...

Dripping ABS (?) Shower bar - repair or replace?

I should have explained that it's dripping out of the hose, not the body or taps (sorry.) I can't see (or feel) any screws (either phillips or allen) holding anything in place.

Dripping ABS (?) Shower bar - repair or replace?

I have a dripping shower bar that I think is a cheap ABS model (see photo, it was fitted new just before we bought the house 3 years ago, but I have no documentation for it.) Are spare valve cartridges available for these and if so is it worth repairing or should I just replace the whole unit...

1/2" BSP hose to isolating valve?

Thanks for your assistance with this, all. I ended up using a JG flexi connector with a built in 90 degree elbow to avoid any un-necessary strain on the pipe. http://www.johnguest.com/speedfit/product/15-22mm-braided-hoses/elbow-pattern/ The other end is "speed fit" so installation was a...

1/2" BSP hose to isolating valve?

Sorry for lack of clarity - both BSP fittings are female, so FiremanT is correct about what I'm asking. This pic/spec for the pipe may help? http://www.screwfix.com/p/hose-14mm-x-x-500mm/82014?_requestid=346881

1/2" BSP hose to isolating valve?

Can I connect a 1/2" BSP fitting on a flexible hose (for a cistern) directly to an isolation valve that was connected to a fixed pipe via a 15mm compression fitting? Will it work without leaks/last? I know I could do it by leaving a short length of 15mm pipe in place and using a 15mm to...

    22mm overflow pipe and fittings?

Thanks for the replies, guys. I managed to get a couple of 22mm to 21.5 reducers from a local plumbing store. They fit snugly on the 22mm and reduce down to a diameter that suits a flowpast straight connector.

    22mm overflow pipe and fittings?

I've just discovered a problem with a very old 22mm plastic overflow pipe on our central heating tank. I need to add a short additional section using straight and elbow joins, but I can only find Flowplast 21.5mm in Screwfix. Is it possible to get 22mm pipe and connectors as it's not really...

Help with a leaking toilet pan connector

Okay, the good news is I have the old one off. The bad news is, despite it being a macalpine it was pretty much disintegrated - very nasty! The problem, I think (see pic below - I've slipped the rubber fins off of the MacApline to try and get it into the fernco) is that there's just not enough...
