    What is this grey box?

As JohnD says, it's a NTHell box.

    What is this grey box?

I can't believe they mounted that NTL box on the floor. What's inside the grey box?

Wiring up a shed via a plug socket.

Getting around the regulations in a legal way is generally know as "complying with the regulations". I think you'd do much better to do some more research of what needs to be done and concentrate on doing a top notch job, rather than doing a half arsed job to try to jump through a loophole in...

    Alternatives to round JBs ?

Have you thought about using square JBs?

    Setting freezer temperature.

That's disappointing to hear, not only because I won't get my -80C freezer but also because it occurred to me that if he left it going for a few days and got it down to -273.15C, he'd be in line for a Nobel gong. That would certainly pay for a new freezer.

    Setting freezer temperature.

I've been trying to get hold of a -80 freezer, so this sounds like it would be just the ticket. Mind if I buy it off you?

PULL CORDS IN BEDROOM - WHY?

Well, funnily enough, I did nearly add "and in this case, it seems that it was opened by a tool" to my post but on reflection I thought that I didn't know peterseventy well enough to get away with suck a quip.

Max number of fused spurs off a final ring

Probably. As I said, I've failed to find an authority. The owners had better hope that we don't find an authority :-) It's mentioned as a guide by the BGB as being a metric for gauging the maximum size of the circuit. Curiously it's 100m2 for a 32A ring and 75m2 for a 32A radial. Work...

PULL CORDS IN BEDROOM - WHY?

Ahh, so you're the reason that BGB keeps talking about live conductors only being accessible by means of a key or tool? :-)

Max number of fused spurs off a final ring

I've heard the reference to one per socket and one from the MCB. So the general formula would be s = n + 1, where s is the number of spurs and n is the number of sockets. That said, Appendix 15 give examples a ring with spurs taken from a junction box. I haven't found an authoritative...

    Dishwasher and Washing Machine

I think if your dishwasher catches fire, you've got bigger problems than the TV going off. Unless of course they're showing that episode of Itchy and Scratchy where Scratchy finally gets Itchy. I don't see why not, as long as you can securely fix the socket to the chipboard. Chipboard...

    LED Downlight - Stopping Draught

I do hate to be pedantic but I think it might more accurately be described as fraud rather than theft. As it's a criminal, rather than civil matter, a call to the local constabulary might be a better place to start than the scheme operator.

    Ring main

I think the best course of action is to ask an electrician to sort it out. As you can tell from the discussion that's come about, it's quite a complex topic and there's a lot of variables to take into consideration. One can't simply say "use this cable and this MCB". If you still have a...

    LED Downlight - Stopping Draught

I don't think he was referring to the amount of electrical energy used to illuminate the room. I think he was referring to the fuel used to heat the air in the room, which then rises through the "Swiss cheese" between the room and the loft and out into the big, bad world. It's not often that...

LED lighting any advice appreciated thanks

    1) I'm not sure either. It's subjective, it depends on what level of light output you want, what colour the room it, how it's layed out, the spectrum of light output from the lamp, etc, etc. It's largely trial and error. A good yard stick would be to think about what you had previously and if...

    Dishwasher and Washing Machine

Sounds like you need to plug it in behind the freezer. If I understand correctly, there's a free socket there already? You don't need a seperate spur [read: FCU], since the 13A protection is provided by the fuse in the plug. Depends what that load is and what the loading of the rest of the...

    Cable termination

Well, yes, I was wondering if such a product existed without having to resort to making one?
