    Odd size for main beam?

For me, all its about is knowing for sure it's *right* and i have the papers to prove. Last thing i want is papers saying somethings fitted wrong. So i just wanted to question it. I dont agree with just going with what ever was left from the last job and sticking it in. Fully agree with you woody.

    Odd size for main beam?

That was exactly my issue when the builder looked, he started being iffy as it wasnt his 'norm'. But i guess that dont mean its wrong either. I checked all my notes on the calculations and theres definitly nothing else added. Il do a physical measure of blockwork just to be safe. If it seems to...

    Odd size for main beam?

So we sre saying 47mm roughly of brick left unsupported is ok, and thats if the wall is straight. I get that more steel overhang is fine but not the other way around. I have floor joists on the one side. So i am.over thinking it then

    Odd size for main beam?

Hi guys. I am really pulling my hair out here guys. Help me out as i think i am just seeing things now! My SE has spec'd a 203 x 203 x 46 UC beam to support the opening to our house. 4m span. We have a 1940s build with a cavity. On the drawings the walls are detailed 230mm overall thickness...

    Soft concrete

Can i just add to this topic guys, how long do you think to leave the foundations before loading with the dpc course? Minimally? The builder is holding us up so given that, it will probly harden by then anyway. Im currently considering carrying on myself now after all the hassle, so asking for...

    Soft concrete

It wasnt cement that was sprinkled, it was a ton of water. It looked like a bath after it was done. Wheelbarrow was washed out too into it. To me it didnt show care for keeping the water ratios right. No care at all but then i thought, i am only a keen DIYer so maybe i was missing a trick...

    Soft concrete

Ok, well im going to put it to the back of my mind a little then. Hopefully tonight i wont be able to mark it. I suppose one factor could be that the footing concrete mix still has a lot of moisture rising. Maybe thats slowing it down a little.

    Soft concrete

Hi woody. Yea, i get that. Seen it can take as long as 28 days for full strength. My concern is the top layer being imprintable. So were talking setting yes? Could it just need more time?

    Soft concrete

Hey johnny, A part of it slumped where it met a shuttering after it was pumped. It was mixed on his yard and bought down. The bit were talking about I can only relate it to things i have done myself and usually next day its pretty hard. I know theres a 'curing phase' if were talking full...

    Soft concrete

Hi guys. My builder has had to come and add some cement on top of our footings, around 50mm deep to level it off in an area. My concern is that it was put down on monday evening, and i can still stick my finger nails in it. I also didnt like the amount of water that was sprayed on top of the...

cross ventilation and issues with roof design with lantern

Still waiting on the info for new roof layout. One other thing that i forgot to ask, the steel beam that is over the window taking the load point of the sky lantern trimmers, is specced at 152 x 89 x 16 with an 8mm plate welded under it to act as a lintel to the outer leaf bricks. I just want...

cross ventilation and issues with roof design with lantern

Right so, they look decent So i could fit these as woody has stated on the upstand perimiter then? They look a lot better than the ones i saw that were more aimed at being inside a soffit and looked like they would let water in. Il look into those and come back. I really apreciate this guys.

cross ventilation and issues with roof design with lantern

Hmm, well im looking into how i could use the abutment vents in an upstand but cant find any examples. My roofing knoledge is very limited as a diyer. I am tempted to swap it out for a warm deck somehow. And get it past bc. As i already have the superfoil, i checked their website snd they have...
