    Damp fence on patio

If I was a bit more confident and capable I’d take off and refit but I don’t think I’d do it without stressing out. But good flag about waiting for a prolonged dry spell (not now) to do any cutting

Thanks for that, I could probably do with buying a multi tool for other things too so sounds like it could be a worthwhile buy

    Damp fence on patio

Hi all, looking for some advice We had this fence installed on top of patio tiles. As it’s directly in contact with the patio when it rains the slats get damp at the bottom. Pic attached Im worried they will rot. So would you advise trimming the bottom centimetre or so off each one? (They are...

Door handle WILL NOT come off

Thanks @Diver Fred I’m replacing the handle with a new one so it doesn’t matter what state I leave the handle. I’ve tried to get that mangled screw out but it’s too firmly in and I cant grab it. When you say drilling out do you mean drilling through that mangled screw? And cutting through the...

Door handle WILL NOT come off

Hi all, help need please Trying to remove a bathroom door handle and just can’t get the thing off. It seems like the lock end of the handle won’t won’t detach. I can’t see anything that would release anything like a screw, although on the lock there does seem to be a mangled/deformed bit of...

    Bannister come away from post

@chirpychippy hi again, would any other grade wood glue work do you think? D5 doesn’t seem very readily available at regular outlets. If I get the screw right could I get away with a different D-grade do you think? Thanks again

    Bannister come away from post

Hi all, looking for help please… A small section of bannister we have on our stairs has come loose from the post it should be attached to. I tried using Gripfill or something similar but it didn’t have enough grab. Has anyone any other ideas that could help? Other adhesives maybe? I’m not...

    Velux window - damp

Ah do you mean this bit? The screws don’t look too bad and it’s not showing too much signs of wear unlike the previous pics..

    Velux window - damp

hi again all, I’ve had a peak below the side flashing, and it’s clear the wood on the damp side seems to have warped away leaving a gap to the side and at the end, which looks like the problem. Compared to the dry side which is flush with no gap. I did try rescrewing with ptfe but seems...

    Velux window - damp

We can live with a section being rotten as long as we can fix the ingress so the rot doesn't spread.

    Velux window - damp

Is this the side flashing that you think could be the problem? I can only see one screw so not sure

    Velux window - damp

Thanks Crank - it is the original glass but 20 years old, so even if I tried I'd struggle to get the flashing off? So only option (other than getting someone more qualified in) could be to seal over the top with silicone?

    Velux window - damp

Thanks Blup, yeh I feared something like that - probably a silly question, would it be worth just blasting some see-through silicone over the top of it? I cant get good enough access to remove the profiles but can probably get a gun to it

    Velux window - damp

I can’t tell any difference between the outside casing. Attaching the left (wet) and right (dry) for comparison. Any ideas??

    Velux window - damp

Hi all, We have Velux windows installed, and about a third of them all have water ingress when it rains, in the bottom left corner of the frame. Some are worse than others but it's after heavy rain, and starting to rot the wood in places. I can't figure out why as the other corner is dry and...

    Out of reach pointing tips

I’m about 6 feet away so a long arm but this is interesting if I can get a bit closer and use that, seems more doable than my other idea of taping a trowel to the end of a pole and slapping it in. Thanks

    Out of reach pointing tips

Hi all, Looking for any tips anyone has to reach very high to fill a hole in my house external wall with cement. Trying to prevent any critters getting in but ladders don’t get me close. Any tried and tested make-shift contraptions to get me high but keep some control too. (Without buying...
