The phase out of ice engines..

No. I think you accused me of that, but I explained to you (not that I should really have had to ) in Post#48 why they weren't misleading. Looks like you still haven't managed to get your head round that... How do you get "shrapnel" without an explosion? Why? Doesn't that depend...

Might be about to have a falling-out with my MOT station...

No, there's no real prospect of that. For starters, it means the world to my dad, who was really down in the dumps at the prospect of it having to be scrapped, and apart from that, they've stuck their neck out a bit for me, so I'm not going to stitch them up. It'll get its L-plates slapped...

Might be about to have a falling-out with my MOT station...

Just an update on this for anyone interested. It went for its retest on Tuesday and passed! There's a new "advisory" that has appeared, telling me about some "corrosion on the rear subframe but not seriously weakened". That'll do for me! They must have decided to cut me some slack on the 10...

The phase out of ice engines..

OK, so long as we all know that. Wouldn't want to go mixing up cheap (and quite possibly illegal) Chinese scooter batteries with type approved EV batteries and end up inadvertently giving folk the impression that the fire risks for EVs were far higher than they really were, would we? ;) Good...

The phase out of ice engines..

Couple of things there: 1. You do realise that e-scooters and bikes aren't regulated by the same regulations that cover cars, don't you? The latter are, (you'll perhaps not be surprised to hear) just a tad more stringent! 2. Some types of lithium ion cell are less prone to thermal runaway...

Don't think ICE or EV could hack that!

I believe the last vehicle up there was... ...ICE just can't hack it...

The phase out of ice engines..

Yes, let it not be said that the anti-electrification propaganda machine isn't giving this its best shot! :ROFLMAO: Still, nothing changes. At least they didn't have social media when electricity started to take over from domestic coal and ga. They had to resort to posters back then...

    Exhaust clamps

I tend to replace sump plug washers with the appropriate size of Dowty washer. That seems to work well and they come undone easier.

    Exhaust clamps

More likely to come loose with washers, I'd have thought? I think the idea is that the nuts deform the steel of the clamp, locally, as they're tightened up, making it less likely that they will undo. I guess nobody undoes exhaust clamps these days, they're just so rusty by the time that needs...

More likely a poor installation by the bus builder. Make no mistake, if they feel like it, the Chinese can do some excellent engineering. You definitely get what you pay for with China, though. If you want cheap tat, that's what they will sell you, and it will be very cheap and very tatty...

The phase out of ice engines..

Yes, of course! Do you have that figure to hand? I wouldn't worry too much about social media videos of vehicles in China. Their regulations are different to ours...

They do when they're not on fire! (...which is most of them, most of the time...) ;)

The phase out of ice engines..

Yes - some of them at least. The bus will have to pass all the various stability tests before it gets approved for use on the road. Good to hear there were no injuries. We have about 60 bus fires a year in the UK. I'll leave you to guess how many are diesel and how many are electric...

The phase out of ice engines..

Interestingly, the stats for electric vs. diesel buses are similar to cars - the diesel ones go up in smoke way more often. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-67564771?fbclid=IwAR1rXz3d_jl4AT7NSwnKTMERNLfyTorWaw3elh3Y_loFGrG_FOyQyGITXa4

And, of course, all these old cars were nothing like as safe as current ones, even BEFORE they got as decrepit as they were when we used to drive them! Many years ago, I was towing an old Austin A40 to the scrapyard. My mate was sat in it and I was in the towing car on the other end of the...

Might be about to have a falling-out with my MOT station...

You don't know my dad! :ROFLMAO: Meh... I'm just a terrible parent - that's all there is to it! The other son is driving round in a 1990 Alfa which doesn't even have ABS or any airbags! Seriously, if I thought the Landy was "dangerous" he wouldn't be anywhere near it. It'll be...

Funny enough, we got the daughter a Honda Jazz... ...bloody horrible thing, but so far, pretty indestructible.

Might be about to have a falling-out with my MOT station...

Thanks guys. This is a really convenient garage in the next village, so I can put the bike in the back of the car, leave the car with them for the day, and cycle back home. Family run firm with a good reputation, and I've been taking all our cars there for some years and have never disagreed...

Might be about to have a falling-out with my MOT station...

A lot, to be honest. Mechanically, the car isn't great. Cosmetically it is awful. It's quite thirsty, ruinously expensive to tax and will become almost impossible for the lad to insure once he passes his test. Rationally, far better to cut my losses and getting a wee "shopping trolley" for...
