Might be about to have a falling-out with my MOT station...

I guess I'm gonna find out anyway! :ROFLMAO:

Might be about to have a falling-out with my MOT station...

That's the sad conclusion that I keep coming back to. However, whilst they're open for sales on a Saturday, I'm not sure they do MOTs on a Saturday.

Might be about to have a falling-out with my MOT station...

Only that "safe" isn't a binary thing. If I found it a second hand subframe that passed the MOT, it might make it 0.0000001% "safer" than it currently is. The safety argument is pretty mute when you're putting your kid in a 24 year old Freelander anyway, to be honest. Even in perfect...

Might be about to have a falling-out with my MOT station...

Yeah. Hence my questions about whether the day of the test itself was counted as one of the ten, and whether Saturdays were counted.

Might be about to have a falling-out with my MOT station...

I'm afraid so. Found one in Spain for £250...:( Car's worth maybe £500 and the postage was pretty steep... To be honest, the lad's got a driving test booked in February and as soon as he passes, the insurance on an elderly 2 litre 4x4 will skyrocket, so I only really needed it to see me...

Might be about to have a falling-out with my MOT station...

No of course it shouldn't! But that wasn't what I was asking. If it had failed on the subframe I wouldn't have appealed. I'd have regarded it as a "fair cop" and scrapped the car. Not that I'm in the least bit worried about it being unsafe, because of where the holes are and the loads that...

Might be about to have a falling-out with my MOT station...

Probably one for Mottie, Carmemoranda, and anyone connected with the MOT scheme, please! Long story (slightly!) shorter... My dad had to give up driving recently. He has an absolute howling dog of an old Freelander, (2001 vintage) with about 175,000 miles on it. Really, it needs scrapping...

The phase out of ice engines..

Man! We really need a facepalm emoji on here! The WHOLE POINT of quoting per 100,000 of each, is so that it evens-out the difference in total numbers on the road! If you did it in absolute numbers, the percentage of EV fires would be even less! :ROFLMAO: But just to humour you...

The phase out of ice engines..

I think those are all fair observations (although the wet belt is isolated to only certain particular manufacturers). Without doubt, EV spares (and the technicians to fit them) are in short supply - particularly the Chinese ones. This is widely recognised round the industry and big efforts are...

He'd love my dad's old Freelander that I'm currently trying to weld back up for an MOT! There's only about a 1200 RPM window in its whole, sorry rev range from tickover to redline, where something isn't vibrating, rattling, buzzing, squeaking, or threatening to fall off! :ROFLMAO:

Yeah, I really hate it every time mine goes off... :ROFLMAO:

Above about 12 MPH, mine doesn't really sound of anything at all, to be honest. Certainly no whine. It's so quiet, I can hear the anti-EV boomers whining as I overtake them though... ;)

The phase out of ice engines..

Yes, I think ICE cars have gone about as far as they can now. And if you think they're complex today, wait until the "Euro 7" emissions regulations kick-in!

The phase out of ice engines..

Yes, I saw that. It's only a concept and to be honest, I don't think it's practicable. You wouldn't want to be a pedestrian walking along the pavement if it ejects a burning battery into your ankles at high speed! Similarly, you wouldn't want to be driving past if it ejected it on the other...

The phase out of ice engines..

They're a relatively new technology, it's hardly surprising. 100-odd years ago, we had way more blacksmiths and carriage builders than ICE mechanics. Some mechanics will choose to upskill and will be in demand in the future. Others will stick with what they know and either retire or pursue...

The phase out of ice engines..

Trouble is, those that don't grasp the EV nettle will also be toast too. Yes, the Chinese have stolen a march on us and we're the best part of 10 years behind them. We're at the point where e can either put our heads in the sand and become 20 years behind them, or we can grasp the nettle and...

Oh do tell me more! I know a few people at HSE and that sounds like a load of made-up bolleaux, so I'd like to follow it up with them. Where was this talk and who gave it?:)

Except they don't, really, but there are plenty of suckers around who can't distinguish fact from propaganda... ;)
