    Sack cloth and ashes

I dont particularly want anything like a superstate. I want less pollution, less corruption, I want my taxes spent on roads, education, nhs and the oldies, not in politicos pockets. Here the EU is the best thing for those goals, they come down more on corruption then our own system, development...

Why do you come to GD on DIYnot?

I came here for the DIY stuff, needed some advice on lime and damp to supplement my old house books. Had a look here on GD and find it interesting to see a little bit what the word on the street is(or on the forum), interesting to see people with different ideas(usually wild ones like Joe and...

    Sack cloth and ashes

An ex top banker in charge of a country in thrall to the banks, the fox guarding the hen house. He should change his title if he gets in to Prime Spiv.

    Sack cloth and ashes

The EU is as good as it is bad. For Bill in Bognor Regis who is born there and dies there he just sees it as Brussels letting the Poles in to nick jobs and a comfy life on benefits, or the human rights acts letting Abu Qatada take the ps as its what the DM says. But a lot of Brits do well out of...

    Sack cloth and ashes

The benefit and NHS systems do need tweaking, a blanket system across the board maybe to get this "fairness" that Cameron harped on about but then that would require a closer EU which isnt the flavour of the month, on the other hand I wouldnt trust Cameron to run a wheelbarrow of grass cuttings...

    Sack cloth and ashes

What it comes down to then with I think it was only France and Spain with lesser paid MP's, is that ours(more like yours now, ours here are even more bent) complain that they are underpaid but really the others are overpaid even more. Its like football players wanting parity with higher...

    Sack cloth and ashes

It wouldnt grate so much the likes of IDS slashing benefits, if the politicos werent playing the system themselves either, expenses, free nosebag, free accomodation, flipping houses etc. Thats why for a lot of people all this "war on scroungers" just comes across is as realpolitik, Tory...

    The Maddy Circus rolls on.

This is why Im glad here if Im ever called to trial its in a country with a professional judiciary who calls the shots, guilty or not guilty. Rather then the kind of herbert like Norcon or a Sun or Daily Mail reader swayed by prejudices or crackpot theories. To be fair if Id had jury duty as...

    The Maddy Circus rolls on.

A specially trained police dog savaged a kid who was playing in his nan's garden the other week in the UK, the police handler couldnt control it and get it off. Dogs are fallible. Some cracking theories in this thread though, Norcon has deffo been ingesting some fumes in his paint shed...

    U turn on tobacco packaging.

A tidy box doesnt make a difference between whether people will smoke or not. Im a big fan of the old F1 ciggie liveries, like the JPS or Camel Lotus and Senna's Marlboro McLaren. Lotus started bringing it back, good memories of the old cars. Doesnt mean Im going to start smoking.

    Top tips...

I usually go and sit in one of my cellers for half an hour, especially after a hard slog in the garden on a hot day. If its really hot like 40 in the sun and Ive been working hard I usually sit there in the nak on a bucket as sort of an anti sauna. I store my beer there too and enjoy a cold one.

    Holidays

Will try and finally get to Auschwitz this year, not the happiest place to go on holiday but there you go. Will probably sneak two days in Krakow around that and about 4-5 days in the Beskidy mountains. Road trip.

    Pamplona Gorings

Ive always liked the bull run, Im a big fan of traditions and culture and I think this is would be a great adrenaline rush as well. The bulls win sometimes too taking the odd person out or a good goring. I agree with the element of animal cruelty and usually Im dead against it, but the bull...

    2min silence for Lee Rigby?

Im in two minds about us banging on about Hillsborough. We get accused a lot of taking part in Joe's grief culture. Personally I found it pointless to discuss and change the mind of outsiders about it(unless they had a really enquiring mind, foriegners like Italians and Germans have been the...

    Dreamliner.....AGAIN........what to do?

Same in Shark el Sheikh. Elsewhere on the Sinai, people are getting their heads cut off by Islamic militias.

    2min silence for Lee Rigby?

Taking away the context of the rest of the thread, this is a spot on comment. There hasnt been a clear goodies vs baddies set to since ww2. Even in Yugoslavia they were both as bad as each other and we just picked a side. Falklands possibly but a lot of political capital was generated by that...

    Hosepipe bans

Its better to use barrelled up rainwater on the plants and grass anyway, more nutrients in it then the tap water. Mini pump and a hose and bobs your fathers brother. Only the car should suffer during a hosepipe ban.
