    If your going to paint the skirting, use MDF pre primed, its much more stable and wont cup or warp.

    I tihnk in the last photo, thats just some grab adhesive thats been squeezed out, plastering looks fine imo, a mist coat once it's all fully dried out will tell you more, I'd say that the pine end wall has been dot and dabbed.

    You dont need to seal it for dab, its a good idea to do a solid line at floor level too for skirting fixing, although I tend to just stick the skirting on with grab adhesive to save filling screws and sanding. Still helps with that too though.

    The best preventative measures you can take are to apply a solid run of board adhesive along the top and to let it dry out properly before using the fire, bearing in mind the dab could be an inch thick, the plasterboard another 1/2 inch and skim, suction into substrate etc it could well be 2 or...

    After skimming and a mist coat you may see a hairline crack which caulk would sort out. apply it, smooth it in with your finger and wipe it over with a damp sponge.

    poke a batten through the hole and secure it through the existing plasterboard with dry wall screws and cut a circle of plasterboard and screw it into the batten, fill over and sand back with a sanding block.

    Try first with multi finish, you can pva over it and have another go once its dried out, also try some bonding over the plasterboard and use multifinish over it. Good luck, theres loads and loads of tips, methods and advice on here :)

    Its true about dot and dab, it will sound hollow between the dabs, knocking a hole through is a good idea to check, its a popular method used at the moment. I hope the site manager treats you well.

    If its in good nick and you can find out details of the coating used it may be able to be cleaned.

    Plastering Surround to Knocked Through Wall

    I would have dabbed the wall each side and continued the same plasterboard onto the studding to avoid having a join where wood meets block, as for the doorway, you could put some DPC down and use light weight blocks on a door way, I cant see it causing much problem, there are other ways too.
