    CORRECT UTILISATION OF INSULATION BLOCK

Hi, Cream, If you are talking about Spain or Portugal or somewhere like that, they normally build single skin with a hollow teracotta extruded block which is impervious to water their brickwork generally looks ****e, but they often render over it. The idea I suppose, is that as it's mostly...

    Lintols, who needs lintols?

Hi, Shy, No, I saw it on the way back from a local Indian Restaurant, last night. (Starter, Chana Paneer, Main, tandoori mixed grill with a nan bread and side salad. and a rather good bottle of Chablis) So there I was making my slightly tipsy way home, and just round the corner from where I...

All good points boys. BTW Shy, An architect can never be 'one of ours' ( The architect of confusion take the place of Old Nick after all.) So it's Brickies as High Priests and other trades as acolytes.

Dundee, oh right, Tesco's in Scotland, (Where the sweaties shop.) BTW, Franks new building is only there for 3 months apparently. (What a waste of good timber) And, no I don't know who is footing the bill for this nonsense either.

Now, Now, woody, Frank is one of our greatest living architects, and this is his first in England, (although he's already done one in Dundee, wherever that is) http://www.edinburgharchitecture.co.uk/maggiescentre_dundee_gehry.htm And I think one is planned for brighton, which might NOT...

    How much mortar.

    P. S. the great bricklayer on the wall is infallible, and he's the only one. Not so mutch a religion, more a bunch of cults.

    How much mortar.

Ok, Nose, your allowed to make an error now and again, as long as it's not to lay 'em nick over crack, or forget to put the dust in the mix. (I swear I had a labourer who did that once)

Removing internal non load bearing wall fall under the regs?

Hi, liam, If you make a friend of your local building inspector/ D.S. you will be a lot better off. I would go and ask them what they want to see. you will usually find the local planning dept a good resourse and helpful.

    How much mortar.

Hi, Davy, The standard 'formula' used in the trade is that a ton of sand lays a thousand bricks and the blocks to back it/them up. So as you are laying 8,700 bricks/blocks in total, I would suggest you buy a 10 ton load of soft sand, it will be the cheapest way, and any excess can be bagged or...

New Chasing tool...Anyone using them/used them?

The point here gentlemen, I think is. That a good workman doesn't blame his tools, as firstly, he would see to it that his work was right, and he wouldn't be caught using anything but the best

New Chasing tool...Anyone using them/used them?

It's a bit like a good metal chisel. However you would be better off using a Footprint 2" bolster, the finest tool ever invented, (after the Marshaltown 12" brick trowel of course)

    dpc

Hi, poonz, In that case, then two course of class B engineering bricks with or without a plastic DPC laid on will do the job. If your door opening(s) are at path level, (usual) then you can step the DPC down underneath the door cill. good luck with the build. Alan D.

    dpc

Hi, Spoonse. If the 'shed' is not habitable, (part of your house and to be used for sleeping/living in) then there is no need for a DPC. If it is to be 1/2 brick thick wall, (one skin brickwork, stretcher bond) then there is no point either. If you want/would be happier with some form of...

    cement rendering

Hi, bill, Have a look at the brickwork you intend to cover/render. Bear in mind that older brick walls which are built in sand lime mortar are flexible and expand more than modern mortar mixes. What this means is, if the wall(s) you intend to render are older than about 50 years, (and this...
