yes it can be capped off and bricked up,CORGI MAN FOR ALL YOUR GAS-WORK! and make sure you identify the correct flue terminal if capping as capping an in use flue is highly dangerous.

a good clue is short cut sections of floorboard either side of the breast,if you find 1 or 2,try lifting them and look for a gaspipe.if you have cellars? the job is much easier.

your plumber should have known to leave 1 rad without a trv for by-pass purposes if your pipework does'nt have a built in by-pass,drainning down to fit them may have caused a blockage,would have been an ideal time to give the system a full flush.

hi dave, i think they changed it to everthing is 60 secs except glass fronted fires as the glass retains the heat in the thermacouple so it takes longer to shut down . kev.
