''A New Form of Heating From Germany''

Like the electric car - although all the eco warriors would no doubt disagree.

''A New Form of Heating From Germany''

Well I don't know, but my understanding of the laws of physics would suggest that 'there's no such thing as a free lunch' so low wattage = low heat :D Buy a 100W lamp bulb and stick it inside a metal biscuit tin!

None turning around here today. Better get the candles ready for calm nights!

''A New Form of Heating From Germany''

My local rag, the South Lakeland News carries an advert about a new form of heating from Germany. Loads of hyperbole in the advert - ''a very special form of electric heating'' etc etc. To me these heaters look like (what are probably bloomin expensive to buy) electric radiators? Now...

    Changing Timing Belt

But always determine that the garage is competent. Do a halfassed job on cambelts and you pay the price often enough with a destroyed engine top end. That will take the sparkle away from having saved a few quid when the garage deny all responsibility. Find a decent garage and pay a decent...

    car battery voltage

Well you've got to get it started so either get some good jump leads, run it off down a hill, snatch it with a tow rope or get a few mates to give you a push! Chucking a new battery in it without any attempt to verify the charging system is working is taking about a 50% risk of wasting your...

    car battery voltage

Don't do that, you must test the voltage with the engine running to ascertain if the charging system is OK or not. Chances are the alternator is fubarred or the belt is slack/missing. The battery is likely dead because it's not receiving any charge - changing it will not cure your problem -...

Peugeot 106 Diesel 1.5 Fuel Pump leak (1996)

Remove the immobiliser from the pump (behind a cover secured with shear bolts) and find the live feed from the ignition - route this directly to the 12volt solenoid on the pump itself. You now have no immobiliser but who cares on a car worth 200 quid, the plus side is you remove a load of...

    Oil pressure too high?

Not many survived for long as the buzzer was always giving false alarms and got disconnected. I think the pressure switch had two outputs - light and buzzer and the buzzer worked in conjunction with some electronics that put engine RPM into the equation. (I think.....)

Wall paint bubbling up - how to remove

But maybe they won't if you 'key' the paint with the 40 grit? There's only one way to find out I guess.....

Captive nut in suspension mounting bracket

You've only just got to jam the nut with a screwdriver while you tighten the bolt. It's easy as friction does 95% of the work for you here.

    Creosote alternative

[/url] Also 'Creotreat.' It's all rubbish as it's oil based rather than coal tar based. I buy proper creasote from a fencing supplier - Bartoline make it. It's just no longer for sale in retail outlets.

Wall paint bubbling up - how to remove

Well I'm not sure I'd not be taking every scrap of paint off, maybe just sand the bubbles and 'key' the rest? I guess a decent random orbit sander with a vacuum hose may be an option.

Captive nut in suspension mounting bracket

Well you just have to decide what sort of things you anticipate welding and then buy a machine. Hobby style MIG's are perhaps more suited to thinner material - say up to about 4 or 5 mm thick. Stick (MMA) machines will deal with stuff up to any thickness (believe it or not) as you can make...

Captive nut in suspension mounting bracket

That job is easily withing the capabilities of a DIY type MIG, one rated at about 160amp would suffice and use 0.8mm wire. Don't buy a buzz box MMA welder, if you want to go down the MMA welder route then buy an inverter machine. I managed to buy a Wolf 200 amp MMA inverter welder for a lot...

Wall paint bubbling up - how to remove

Sure you will, just get a cork sanding block and some 40 grit paper and some elbow grease. The 40 grit will chew those bubbles off in a jiffy provided you're not afraid of a bit of work. I think those bubbles are due to damp in the wall. I say that because the previous emulsion gives a porous...

    Oil pressure too high?

Nothing wrong with that I wouldn't think, 4 bar is about 60psi which I would say is fine for a cold engine in good condition with fresh oil. The Haynes book of lies probably quotes a figure for an engine at idle with hot oil

    VW Bora diesel

Very wise. Leaving oil in for some of these ridiculously long recommended intervals is another sure fire way for the turbo to eat itself.
