    MOT question

Any old spring will do provided it's about the same size and thickness. Provided it provides enough 'pull' to get the rear brakes on enough to pass the MOT then there's no reason to fail it.

    Alternator problem

I know, we have to move with the times and I have two digital ones, one more suited to motorcars as it has a rev counter function inbuilt. Cheap as chips and if they go wrong they will end up in the bin without me shedding a tear. I do still miss my old AVO though, one day I may see if I can get...

    Alternator problem

There was once a Peugeot, maybe a 302 or something from a few decades ago. It had a transverse engine with the radiator behind the front grill. Peugeot had fitted a normal fan in front of the rad but belt driven via a normal crank driven 'V' belt that run in three dimensions with various jockey...

    Bodyshop - repair or replace

You can't really 'demand' anything per-sey. The insurance engineer (assessor) is correct here. I'd relax and let them get on with it! Julian

You will get no replies. They would not be daft enough to stick their heads above the parapet!

    Insurance Opinions welcome.

That's the bit I'm not sure about. Private land for sure, but crucially the public have access to it. Thus it is classed as a 'road' under the meaning of the Road Traffic Act and so insurance is required and all the regular stuff like drink/drug driving laws apply etc. Car insurance is...

2007 astra dipped beam light blown now not working

Sorry for my duff advice earlier on as I got confused with my car, Astra G, with yours which is an Astra H. My first thoughts were CAN BUS as the H unfortunately uses this system. Google seems to suggest the CAN is shutting down the power supply to prevent system damage. Are you using the...

New Boiler Fitted All Radiators Hot But Strange Issue

That's in-line with the fact that today has been much colder than of late with all those wet mild days and you've only been there since May... So really you can't compare today's problem with anything previous as the goal posts have moved regarding climatic conditions.

New Boiler Fitted All Radiators Hot But Strange Issue

As the rads are getting properly hot and you are still chilly and given that the boiler is obviously doing its job albeit oversized, then the only solution would appear to be installing larger or more radiators.

Van plus VAT and van with no VAT?

I had this issue. I just needed the van for the dogs any lumping stuff in, I'm not vat registered or a business. If your're just after a car derived van like an Astra then what about the estate car option and then just get the sidewindows blanked out if you wish?

New Boiler Fitted All Radiators Hot But Strange Issue

As my dad used to say when I was cold - 'put on a woolly jumper' - that's a cheaper way to keep warm than burning gas! It always amuses me when I see all the tosh on the BBC news about people not being able to afford to heat their houses and struggle to pay the gas bill etc etc. Invariably...

New Boiler Fitted All Radiators Hot But Strange Issue

Indeed. That's what I thought in the second post earlier on: Rads are hot, end of story. And I have no specific knowledge other that what I studied in A level physics many decades ago - you can't re-write the laws of physics. I'm thinking the problem isn't half as bad as advertised. And if...

New Boiler Fitted All Radiators Hot But Strange Issue

Ok, obviously the boiler is over sized and thus not suited for the installation and almost certainly not set-up correctly by the fitter. However the OP states that the rads are getting too hot to touch, so why is the house not getting warm compared with the old system. Surely there must be...

New Boiler Fitted All Radiators Hot But Strange Issue

I think you sure will when the repair bills and servicing costs for the new boiler far outweigh any 'alleged' savings. :( Well, if the radiators are too hot to touch then you'd struggle to explain that the boiler is not doing its job. And for me in the Northwest, we've just had the coldest...

2007 astra dipped beam light blown now not working

Fuse 6 dipped beam right. Also headlight range adjustment so that will give you a good clue. It's a twin filament bulb isn't it - does main beam work? Box by driver's knees I think.

    bridging loans

Yes indeed, a fairly fundamental issue! Though it could be argued that the disingenuous money lenders would probably secretly welcome a default on a secure loan as at the end of the day they will make certain to be quids in when finished. I was more hoping for a reply that addressed my issue...

    bridging loans

In purely general terms, would I be correct to think that a property survey demanded by the bridging loan company would be to establish that the property value was equal or in excess of the loan value? The loan therefore being secured. ie for a loan to value ratio of (say) 25% on a property...
