Hi, After the installation of the Gas Pipe it would be tested for tightness so you would know if your joints were okay or not.

    The crumbustion chamber?

You seem like a decent enough bloke and I think we shall just need to agree to disagree. I actually get what you are saying I just don't personally think that someone without the correct training and certification can be competant.

    The crumbustion chamber?

Surely you can not be that stupid? Really??? I am not saying ALL diy people can not be competent. My question is how on earth could a diyer prove his competance in court if he has caused a death or injury to someone?

    The crumbustion chamber?

I fully appreciate what you are saying. I supose it could be a retired gas engineer. No longer registered but enough experiance to prove he is (or should be) competent. I don't know how a builder could say the same. Without being funny, how would a builder know what the correct working...

    The crumbustion chamber?

Hi, I understand what you are saying but as far as I am led to believe in court if an unregistered / DIY installer causes an unsafe situatuation then they would ned to prove they were competent to carry out the work. As far as i am aware the only way to can prove competance is via the ACS route...

    The crumbustion chamber?

The law is quite clear and you need to be compitent in gas work to work on gas in your own home. If you end up killing someone or damaging property etc you will be prosicuted. Plus why take the risk?

    The crumbustion chamber?

I am quite surprised how people would even contenplate allowing a plumber or DIY to install a boiler. Yes anyone can hang a boiler but I would be surprised if they could commission it and carry out the safety checks. And what would they do if there was a problem? How would they know there...

Ripped off by plumbing charges......please help

£69 per hour seems a reasonable price to me. This is one of the reasons I don't do call outs or repairs. We only do boiler swaps, upgrades and complete installations. Of course we service the boilers we install but that's it. Can't be bothered with the hastle that comes with Landlord...

Hello, Was hoping for a little advice if possible. We are fitting a regular 30cdi boiler to replace an old one and I am fitting a new pump, valves and programmer etc. Nearly all we fit now are combi boilers with plug in clocks so its been a while since I have wired anything up myself...

Ideal Logic+ 30 - Constant NO WATER FLOW LOCKOUT

Hello, We have fitted loads of Logic plus boilers since they came out and have had very few problems. Only twice have we had to get Ideal out and both times it was on Low Flow Lock out. They changed over faulty thermoistors. Your engineer can double check them by using his multi meter...

    Blanking a common flue Duct?

Hello, Yes I am a RGI. I spoke to gas safe today and the first person advised me that I can get a purpose made blank that works on the same principle as an essex flange. Makes sense but I cant source one anywhere. I called Gas Safe again and another gentleman explained that I can put a...

    Blanking a common flue Duct?

Hello, I am pricing a job to remove an old boiler and fit a combi in the kitchen. The current boiler is connected to a common flue chimney. How do I blank it off? Is there a special blank? Don't want to take on job without checking this first as I have never seen this before. Any...

    What boiler to avoid??

I would reccomend an Ideal Logic Plus. I know that in the past Ideal combi boilers were not the best but these really are very well made and come with a 5 year warranty. We pay £608 for boiler, £45 for flue and £110 for RF wireless programmer (plus VAT) from city plumbing. We have...

    Boiler in Loft

Hello, I have a customer who wants a boiler fitted in the loft. It is not floored and there is no ramsey lader for access. I was always under the impression that the floor must be floored and there must be a fixed access? I was soeaking to another engineer today and he said it is puerly...

    Gas Pipe Calculation

Hello, Thanks for the reply. Sorry I should have been clearer. The existing pipe comes out in 22 but at some point changes to 15mm. The pipes have been boxed inide a false sealing with no access and end up under tiled floors, again with no access. From my calculations regarding the...
