    Combi Boiler, Shower pump problem!

Hi, to check your mains flow rate get a bucket and time how many litres the cold kitchen tap outputs in 30s, then times by 2 and you have your mains flow rate in litres/min. To check the pressure you need a gauge, google for "mains pressure gauge". If the house is a new build <2 years old...

Combi in a 2/3 bathroom house?

Hi, You need to check your incoming mains pressure and flow rate, if its very good and you get a *huge* combi then it might work. Unvented cylinders are much better for 2+ bathroom houses, imho, but again you need sufficient pressure and flowrate. In terms of efficiency there isn't much...

    Combi Boiler, Shower pump problem!

Hi, Unfortunately, you cannot fit a shower pump directly to a combi boiler. You would need to add a hot water cylinder and cold water cistern, heating the cylinder indirectly from the combi. However, before you go down that expensive route prehaps you should investigate the shower first...

Hot water pouring into Feed & Expansion tank.

Ermmmm, have you got any trvs, if you have it may be as they close off the pumping over starts  but then why did it pump over when only hot water on..... Take a look at the water level in the f&e tank, measure the distance between the water level and the highest part of the vent pipe...

Hot water pouring into Feed & Expansion tank.

Hi, Sounds like the system is pumping over, water is being pumped up the vent rather than around the rads, what speed is the pump on? Try turning it down if possible. Hope that helps

    Flow rate to bathroom

No, I don't believe they are, although it may be on GCSE level qualifications such as btecs, gnvqs. I don't remember anything related to thermodynamics until A-Level. Same goes for fluid dynamics.

    Small toilet cisterns

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Rather than using up the planets finite resources why don't you instead consume less food this will have the twin advantages of: i. Your'll reduce you carbon footprint, the food we eat has significant carbon emissions associated with it from the way its...

    Flow rate to bathroom

Yep, seems your mains is up to it! So, a bigger combi would give you a better shower - as long as nobody else runs a tap and you shower head isn't huge. Changing the boiler will be pricey though :( Hope that helps.

    VW Golf - clutch slipping?

Wouldn't an oil leak show up on the driveway? Haven't seen anything like that. Thanks for the price guide and advice.

    Flow rate to bathroom

Hi, With a combi you need to have good mains pressure *and* flow rate, you then need a big boiler that can raise so many litres/minute by such and such a temperature. What is the exact model of your Ferolli? Measure your flow rate at your kitchen tap with a bucket and stopwatch - how...

    VW Golf - clutch slipping?

The car has done ~70,000 miles and this is the third clutch its had, it was bought second hand with ~20,000 miles on it. Not sure why the clutch is always going, I don't think its my driving style - what sort of driving would burn a clutch out? Just accelerating a lot, driving with clutch...

    VW Golf - clutch slipping?

Hi, I've got a VW Golf mk4, R reg 1997, 1.6 petrol. The problem is when changing up a gear and immediately after trying to accelerate moderately the engine revs but there is no acceleration. I can stop it happening by accelerating very slowly. This has been happening for around 6 months...

    Cavity wall insulation

 Thanks very much guys for your help. I'm applying to the warmfront scheme so I'll have to see what they say. Would prefer them to do the boiler rather than insulation as it'll be the biggest cost, save most money and most environmentally sound to go from a G rated to A rated boiler.

    Cavity wall insulation

Thats very interesting, cheers for the calcs and ideas. The problem with the house is that its cold downstairs but hot upstairs, obviously hot air rises so this is not something that can be easily eliminated.... :( Loft insulation is 110mm at the moment, was wondering about increasing that to...

    Cavity wall insulation

Ermmmm crap national builder, Ideal Homes if anybody remembers them :? :) Having said that the inner leaf of the house is thermal block, the original builders did say that it wouldn't ever need cavity wall insulation ever because of this - didn't really believe them though. Do you think there...

    Cavity wall insulation

Hi, I had British Gas round yesterday to see if we could get cavity wall insulation, the house is a 4 bedroom detached built in 1988. The BG guy said yes we are eligible for *free* cavity wall insulation but they could only do 3 walls because one gable end is less than 1.3m from the next...

Honeywell DT90E thermostat setting up help needed

Hi, The stat is going on/off as it is a TPI stat, if you register at the Honeywell site and look at their faq's there is a pdf about it. But basically its going on/off to edge the room temp towards the wanted temp, bit disconcerting at first, but the idea is that it should stop the room...
