    I hate DIY with a passion !!

Hmmm - strange! Useless at DIY but posting on multiple DIY sites, I wonder why? Market research maybe, student project perhaps... Who knows?

    Condensation spot (vent plastered over?)

My Guess - When the gas fire was fitted the fitter insisted on the correct venting being installed before he was prepared to 'sign off'. As soon as he walked out of the door, the householder took the internal vent plate off and filled and plastered over the hole. Being a bit of a chancer, no...

    Lawn laying, brambles issue

Definitely stop digging - all you are doing is fragmenting the roots creating more plants every time you dig. Clear once so you can either seed or turf and then mow, mow and mow again. Every time you mow you will reduce the new bramble shoots and eventually, over a couple of years, they will...

    How to fix this table

Wow!! that is some serious wiping! I think you have to strip the whole top back to bare wood and start again. Nothing you do to the worn patch is ever going to match it in to the rest of the surface.

What type of door do I have, and where do I find a replacement?

If you buy from B&Q, they will cut it down for you. IIRC you get three cuts for free?? BUT... be really, really sure on your measurements before you go. "Measure lots, cut once" As to fitting hinges and locks, either a relatively simple DIY job with a decent drill, some sharp bits and a...

    Flushpipe Connector Question

Just to clarify... As you rightly point out the down pipe is firmly fixed and isn't moving at all. It is the seal on the existing external flush connector that is failing. Without a zip tie around it, every time there is a flush it gradually eases off the spigot until finally it pushes it off...

    Flushpipe Connector Question

That is certainly a thought, and I was wondering about some way of stopping an internal cone from popping out. I am trying to find somewhere that has the spec for a Grohe cone, I will have a read. Thanks.

    Flushpipe Connector Question

I was wondering if that might be the case, but it seems to me that the cone is so stiff it just isn't going to expand enough, and there is a lip on the end of the spigot making it even bigger!! I will give it a go. I will have to take the old one off really carefully, I have a feeing I will be...

    Flushpipe Connector Question

Thanks... I have tried an external flush cone, all the ones I can find are too small. I ordered what was called a double seal external flushpipe connector online having spoken to the supplier before I ordered it I was assured it was 75mm Dia - it arrived today and... it is the same as the...

    Flushpipe Connector Question

Hi Everybody, I am losing the will to live here and I hope you guys can help. I am 'renovating' a toilet at home. It is old-fashioned in look, but not actually very old, maybe 12-15 years. It is a high level cistern coming down a nice chrome 35mm flushpipe into the back of the bowl. I have...

Recommendations For A Bench Pillar Drill ?

Table can be raised and lowered, the mechanism isn't exactly finely tuned, but it really doesn't need to be, wind it up lock it off, Bob's your Father's Brother. Yes, the table can be swung out of the way to get big pieces under, maybe not the easiest process, but it only takes seconds. Mine...

Recommendations For A Bench Pillar Drill ?

I bought one of these about a year ago... http://www.recordpower.co.uk/product/bench-drill-with-22-column-and-12-chuck#.Vx5iWZMrJn4 ... and it is brilliant, I am very pleased with it for what I need. (I am a keen amateur, bits of woodwork, bits of metalwork etc)

    Syphon Vs. Flapper

Thanks John, I think I am coming round to that way of thinking, that is the Syphon over the Flapper, rather than the theory that some plumbers are grown ups. The Dudley Turbo drew my eye due to the fact it is so easy to maintain without draining the tank. I certainly don't need any more force...

    Syphon Vs. Flapper

Chaps, I would like to thank you both, most earnestly, for taking the time out of your busy days to offer me the benefit of your knowledge and experience in attempting to answer my question. I am constantly heartened by the attitudes of professionals in any calling when asked to help out those...

    Syphon Vs. Flapper

Hi Guys, Fairly simple question for all you experts... I need to replace the flush valve in a high level cistern, at the moment there is a syphon valve in there and my first instinct was to go like for like and put a Thomas Dudley Turbo in. But, I have read a couple of comments where people...

I think your problem might be that no-one understands the question... Or, it could just be me. As Pompeyal says, a few pictures might help explain.
