    How to make a Gate?

That would look nice - I might try that next time round myself... But - wouldn't laying everything on the diagonal use more timber? I didn't think the OP had that much to play with.

    mower wont start

Needle valve in the carb. Sediment in the petrol tank disturbed by being transported across Europe dragged into carb blocked the needle valve. (something very similar happened to my Mountfield mower - replacement carb sorted it)

    How to make a Gate?

I do quite a lot of gate making for friends and family - once they know you can do it, word gets round! Try this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbWok7I7WgE A reasonable good explanation of Ledge and Brace doors and how they work. Not sure I can help with your timber situation, I...

    tree growing in gully!!!!

Somebody who knows more then me will probably say I am talking rubbish... But - if the tree is still alive/growing you could try drilling a hole down the centre of the stump and filling the hole with some really strong weedkiller. This will kill the tree over time and should at least stop...

It's a pity because I think the guy actually knows what he is talking about most of the time. Such a shame...

    cutting timber neatly

I had some steel angle to cut and the only way I could keep my Jig Saw straight was to make a jig to clamp it to, the jig held the blade straight on both sides so it couldn't wander. I have been trying to justify a good quality compound mitre saw for a while now. :D :D

    How much gravel?

length x breadth x depth Or have I misread the question somehow??

    cutting timber neatly

The problem I get is that the blade always seems to wander away from the fence - and once it starts it is impossible to get it back on track. I have never properly mastered the jig saw. I only really use it when I can't do what I want with either a hand saw, circular saw or band saw.

    cutting timber neatly

I never have been able to cut straight with a Jig Saw, and I own a decent one. But I can cut pretty straight and square with a nice sharp hand saw. And a definite plus one for a good circular saw with the correct blade and a home made timber fence. Particularly if you have a lot of large...

    Swapping side hinges are on

That is the quick way of doing it, but the pedant/perfectionist in me prefers my method - plus I am never happy with the finish I get on filler - I just keep on sanding but it never seems properly 'flat'. Each to his own I guess :)

    Swapping side hinges are on

The way I do it is to clean back the hinge rebate making sure all of the edges are clean and square. Let in a piece of appropriately cut wood which is glued and pinned into place and then sanded down. A little bit of filler as there will usually be some very small gaps, and you are good to...

Impossible to trap mice. Not interested in any food or bait.

No such thing as one mouse I'm afraid. I can rent you my two Border Terrorists for a couple of weeks, but you will have to sign a disclaimer first :)

Stepped on tape measure, tape broken in two

Use a piece of old broken tape measure to join the two bits of broken tape measure - oh wait!! You probably don't have any broken tape measures... (Buy a new one)

    Axminster Tools

Thanks, I actually bought a bandsaw and drill press from Record using a local dealer - early days, but so far I am very pleased with both of them. I ordered a few bits and pieces from Axminster - drum sander and a few drill bits - their service was faultless, delivery the next day and...

how do i replace a junior hacksaw blade oldish metal

You can buy a new frame, with blade, from most sheds for less than 2 quid! Or, invest a couple more of our English pounds and get a decent one for less than a tenner. Buy a new one...

The DOGS in silicone sealent CT 1

I am not a lawyer, but... I think this is illegal. I think it falls under the heading of Retail (or re-sale) Price Maintenance and falls under Chapter I of the Competition Act 1998. Just a thought.

Best method for accurate lap joints

Just a word of caution... I don't usually build to joinery standards - joining two lumps of 4"x2" together is my usual use of a lap joint. Close enough is good enough. If you are making proper stuff, a face frame for a unit for example, I would use a jig.
