    Clarke Tools

Yeah, they're fine. Cheap so don't expect them to last forever. For occasional use and to beef up your toolshed, grand.

    CCTV PROMBLEM

It's not uncommon for manufacturers to overrate the supplies. They do this because sometimes the same psu is used for different brands, or in this case might supply more than the four cams you've got fitted. The spare could be a higher rated supply which has been down-labelled, or is producing...

    Air getting into pumped shower

Just a thought. Try turning the water temp in the hot water tank down by 5 or even 10 degrees on its thermostat. If it's too hot, it can cause cavitation which can lead to air in the pipes even with a surrey flange fitted. I can't see anything wrong with the layout and in fact run a near...

    Rayburn to electric

I've not heard of such a thing, although it does sound possible. Personally I'd sling another storage heater in there if you've got wallspace.

Ride-on mower: 4 acres to mow, budget £3k max; what to get?

1 acre here, half lawn, half paddock. Had a husqvarna LT120 for the past 6 years, done pretty well. Engine still superb, battery starting to fail, wings getting some rust (I never clean it). Does need a new cutter belt every year, which is about 40-50 quid, but was by far the cheapest...

Brand New Boiler. Overflow pipe constantly gushing water.

Check the filling loop - if it's not turned off fully it's adding water and the overpressure valve is dumping it. See pressure guage, should be in the green. If the filling loop is turned off, then it's probably faulty. Call the installers and describe the symptoms.

Yeah, I often use Caution for the dangerous jobs too - but he's starting to get wise to it!

    Best external oil boiler

Sat in on a plumber doing a service at one of our properties this week (of a 12 month old Grant which has worked just dandy), and he recommends a split boiler. This puts the oil bits on the outside of the wall, and the water pipework inside (obviously linked through the wall). Oil side is...

    Rayburn to electric

Er, you want to convert the rayburn to electric? Why? If you have economy7 already at the premisis, each heater would be wired direct to that, and often an immersion element too. Rayburn would not be a part of it. At all. Unless you're trying to address the failings of economy7 by running...

do we really feel that any boiler is good ?

mehram - good post, agree on all points. But one thing missing: Installers who are not 100% honourable. Most householders leave boiler choice to installer, either they're not asked or as they don't deal with boilers every day, when asked will ask "What do you recommend Mr Plumber?" The...

Got planning, in build and neighbour complains

I second the others advice, and also perhaps suggest adding cctv overlooking the site in response to that direct threat, and checking your insurance is good. Seems very odd to be threatened without provocation, unless he really is a gold plated nutter.

    Best Printer

This isn't a helpful post, only a bitter one. All printers are rubbish! Dishonest pricing, atrocious design, overly sensitive to humidity, poor build quality, manufacturer-forced number of sheets per cartridge/toner, manufacturer-forced expiry dates... Yes, it's fantastic that we can print...

    erbauer tools

Had the cordless 14.4 drill/driver for about three years. Given it to an apprentice when I got my Makita, but it'd been fine - no wobbly chucks or spontaneously dying batteries. The Makita is a whole new ball game though...

    Titan tools?

Ryobi used to be good but seem to be turning quality down to compete at the base level. Abusing their reputation. That said, they're still ok and reasonable value. Titan - had four Titan drills, normal and sds+. Three still in use. The dead one was a percussion I mashed by changing gear...

    12v Vehicle Lighting

It's not uncommon to add a second battery if you have an inverter or towing pack, even factory fitted - but base level transits come with one.

    GU10s Energy Saving Bulbs?

Surprised to see cheap led GU10's disparaged, I've got half a dozen and they're fine. 3 x 1 watt leds. The pattern is narrower than a traditional halogen, but christ, it's 3 watts and they don't run dangerously hot. Light LEVELS are fine, but the colour on mine are quite cold. There's...

Neighbours Leaking Flat Roof in a Garage Block - Help pls!

IANAL... But I imagine the view is generally that if their negligence caused damage on your property, you would have a claim against them. However - small claims court would probably be more favourable if you could document a clear history of trying to sort it out politely before going to...

    Cable Duct draw cord

Feeding it through: Roll out the duct and tie down both ends to something hefty. Tie some thin nylon string (the thin electric fence stuff, or orange twin - incredibly strong) to a fairly heavy nut, pile of washers or anything that will pass easily down the pipe. Spanners are often used...

Lagging of pipes on the first floor yes/no

As greemyamochop says, all unheated areas. The underfloor above a heated room can be considered heated. Even if it's insulated to stop sound travel, there's no chance of the cold getting into the house to the extent of freezing those pipes, UNLESS it's already frozen the radiators etc. If the...

how to run in new van?

As someone that organises company vehicles for employees, it's wonderful to hear that sentiment that you want to look after it like your own.
