Problem solved! There was a break in the N wire from the fused switch! Replacement of that wire seemed to have kicked everything into life. Many thanks to all of your help! It's good to know there's kind people out there willing to help.

Just to clarify: The programmer is a Sunvic 20 XLS whith is a 6 terminal "standard" programmer. 12 terminal block of which 9 (including the pump overrun wiring) terminals are being used is located in the airing cupboard containing the cylinder, pump, 3-port (5 wire) valve. No lights on...

If the, er permanent L, is not on the diagram why are the, er permanent N and E? I'll probably check it all by chucking a bucket of water onto the terminal block.

Sorry, should have been a lot clearer. So the questions that remain are: 1) Am I wiring for a Y-Plan? 2) In my Y-Plan wiring diagram (standard one with 10 terminal block, 3-port valve) it doesnt mention SwL and Pump L. Which terminals should these be wired into? Thanks for the help...
