    Oven cleaning.

Yep - you're right Heyyouitsme. I don't want to damage anything! I'll give Mr. Muscle a go and see how he does. Ta!

    Oven cleaning.

My electric oven fills the room with smoke when I use it, presumably because of a build-up of fat and grease in there. I haven't yet seen a cleaning product that is suitable for use on the heating element. Does anyone know of something that is safe to use? Also, the top oven (which is an...

    Hanging on plasterboard wall.

Does anyone know what weight can safely be hung on a plasterboard wall from one fixing? I've got something that I would like to hang and it doesn't feel too heavy (exact weight to follow) but before I go and let it pull out a great hole in the wall, I thought I'd check. Thanks! Dackers.

    Wasps!

I've got a roof tile that needs replacing but there seems to be a wasps' nest in the void so the roofer won't touch it until I get rid of it. Any idea what the best way to do this is? Rentokill (or similar outfit) or another way? Cheers.

    Rusty clothes anyone?

My washing seems to take the clothes, wash them and then splatter nasty little rust-coloured marks all over them like acne. I've tried all manner of stain removal stuff but nothing's any good. I'm guessing there's a fault with the machine but has anyone got the faintest idea what it could be...

Some rads seem to have a mind of their own...

Beans on Toast - clearly you don't seem to get the idea for these forums. Correct me if I am wrong but don't people seek help and advice here on topics that they are not experts on? If not, what is the point of having the forum? Also you clearly are someone who spends their life at home. I...

Some rads seem to have a mind of their own...

All, As we're in the middle of a heatwave, I've turned the central heating off. However, my upstairs bathroom radiator seems to still be getting hot as do two of the downstairs rads. How can this be - the heating's turned off?!?! Am I haunted by some dead vindictive heating engineer who...

    pepper plant

richhl, I've got no idea what the problem might be but I've got a number of similar plants just sitting on a windowsill and I water them once a week or so when they look like they need it and they're going great guns. Maybe the greenhouse is the wrong place? When you water - presuming that...

    Run marks on wall?

The top of the ceiling is only about half way up the external wall to the apex of the roof so it can't be a roof/felt/slate thing. Actually, I did notice a crack running along the external wall so that might be it even though the surveyor said the it wasn't big enough to have caused a problem!

Radiator on when heating is off - interesting...

Radiator on when heating is off - interesting...

Has anyone got any ideas why the rad in my bathroom (upstairs) is hot even now I've got the heating switched off due to the barmy summer we're having (!)? Seems a bit strange to me and I just can't fathom it.

    Run marks on wall?

Hi everyone. Not sure where this post should really go so I'll out it here for the time being! I was looking at the wall of my bedroom the the other day and it looks like some light brown-ish water or other liquid has been running down it from where it meets the ceiling. It doesn't fell...

    Shower installation.

Hello all. My shower has given up the ghost. It's an old Gainsborough thing. The hot and cold have a mind of their own and now it won't turn off - I had to cut the power to the house last time! My question is this: Knowing nothing about these thinks, is there anything I should bear in...

    Slopes, moss and clay lawn.

My back garden isn't the most level thing in the world - one side of it slopes down a bit - it's not disastrous but makes mowing problematic. The sunken side tends to get waterlogged in the rain and even after the heat of the last few days is soggy and your feet have a tendency to sink into...

    More decking woes...

Ah, that was going to be my next question to Thermo - what form should the vertical supports take?

    More decking woes...

Right - that's what I'll do then. Thanks for the advice! By the way - what's your opinion on deck clips vs screwing the deck boards down from the top?

    More decking woes...

Thanks Thermo. So you think I'd get away without putting the secondary bearers in then? THAT would be handy!
