    Blocked drain / roots

I have been thinking about this and have a few more questions.... 1) Is a CCTV worth doing ? - I have been quoted £120 for this ? 2) Some people have mentioned that I could have my drain "relined" - Is this any good ? 3) I'm going to check my home insurance but is this kind of thing...

    Blocked drain / roots

Cheers - Guess we'll have to have a think. I suppose its whichever i think is the less of the two evils, regular cleaning or dig the drive up. There are one or two small holes around the end of the pipe where the concrete seems to have come away and roots are getting in so I might try and...

    Blocked drain / roots

Just had a nightmare yesterday - Downstairs toilet didnt flush properly and when we checked we had a blocked drain. To cut a long (and smelly) story short we managed to get it unblocked but the main blockage was some fine roots from a sycamore tree (we have them all down the street). We...

Upgrading / replacing shower extractor fan

We have had one of these fitted in our new bathroom: http://www.truste-marketing.co.uk/uk_dir/products/5489058.html and to be honest there doesnt seem to be as much air being extracted as we would expect. The specs that came with it says that it extracts 70m3 per hour. Its an inline...

Moving electric oven & wall replaster

It would actually make the cable shorter but I might need to join it under the floor boards upstairs (they would be screwed down for future access if needed). So heres my plan: 1) Join the existing cable under the floor boards upstairs using a 40a junction box. 2) Feed cable down wall...

Moving electric oven & wall replaster

b.t.w the cooker has its own separate 40Amp MCB I have just found this wiki page but it doesnt mention 6mm: http://www.diynot.com/pages/el/el004.php My main concern is that I dont want to have to chip out a cable run for a new cooker cable in the future as we might replace the current...

Moving electric oven & wall replaster

by the way i am now trying to work out what size cable I currently have installed - i guess its either 6mm or 10mm. Looking closely at it the red cable seems to have 7 copper cores that seem to be the same size as a single copper lighting cable (old red / black size). Is this 6mm ? If...

Moving electric oven & wall replaster

Its a free standing oven. It does have its own separate cable from the fuse box which terminates into a oven switch box that has a deep platic back box that was screwed to the wall. No ring main involved

Moving electric oven & wall replaster

I am wanting to move our current electric oven around 1m away from is current position which means extending the current cable. The cable also currently goes down the wall on the outside via some cable clips tacked to the wall (which looks very ugly). The old lime plaster is falling off the...

Honeywell CMT927 7 Day Wireless Controller - Any good ?

Thanks for all the comments guys - I have ordered a CM927 from Godfreys online. I have come to the conclusion that boilers are like cars, some people swear by some brands and some people hate others. You could buy the "best" boiler and it breaks down after a week and then you could buy the...

    PAT Testing

I was thinking of doing some sound recording for a local orchestra and when I started to look into it somebody mentioned that I might need to get the equipment I used "PAT tested" to cover for insurance etc. Does anyone know how much this would cost and whats involved ? The list of kit...

Online boiler sizing calculators / sizing my boiler

I see - so the pump inside the combi boiler will vary its speed depending on the temperature of the hot water coming out of the hot water supply (which in winter will be lower). So it makes no difference to the size of the house / number of radiators etc other than the time it would take to...

Online boiler sizing calculators / sizing my boiler

You mean installation costs ? Installation costs aren't really a factor (how oftern do you buy a new boiler) but ongoing year on effficiency costs are the biggest factor (especially thinking about the cost of gas in the future!). So I maybe even able to get away with the 24kw ?

Cr*pp*ng myself about plastic pipe connections

I know the feeling over the last few years - I have reconnected all the radiators in our house via solder ring connections (not worried) but the final connection to the radiator is via a compression fitting (as you do) and I am just about to get my traditional boiler / tank system replaced with...
