    Jerky playback on DVD

If memory serves, Windows can sometimes do an automated 'fallback' to PIO mode if it has had problems reading a CD/DVD (e.g. scratched/dirty). There maybe some obscure article you can find on the MS website that discusses this.

    Bathroom Ventilation

Does that also apply to a situation whereby the facing brick is engineering grade (e.g. Accrington)? In the past I have simply "stitch drilled" for any vents and then relied on the outer trim to hide any rough edges. Never having used a core drill I don't have any experience of how good they are...

    Wall grout colour

Lots of people would put this down to a matter of personal choice... I think I'd be the same - nobody can tell you exactly what is the 'right' choice. Hacing said that, white grout 'may' look dirty quicker and coloured 'may' fade' quicker and then look 'dirty' quicker. But whatever you do...

    computer is freezing

Some programs - Microsoft Office is the main culprit - have an indexing feature which means they keep writing to the disk... because of this a defrag or cleanup won't work because it detects that the disk contents have changed and so it restarts itself. There are ways of disabling this but I...

how much for a wall this size????

As the mod says - no pricing and things and the forum... but I'm sure you can find elsewhere how much the going rate is per 1000 brick in your area. Then just factor this in to your labour rate for the footings, materials etc. (Lynda - hope the above is OK) ____________________________...

    Sticking brick chips back on

It's definitely a bit annoying when you destroy the brick face - just not sure anybody I know has successfully glued the bits back in. You may find that water gets behind the pieces and then lifts the bits back off. Time for a bity of a confession - I have just drunk some wine and had to read...

PC continually reboots at start up.

Isn't sending a new hard drive and recovery disc a bit like going into a garage with your car and saying 'my headlights are not working' only to be told that they will sort that out no problem... and then hand you a new fuel tank and tell you to fit it yourself???

    best format for dvd player

Funny how I forgot about that but yes this can be quite a problem - you may find that some brands of blank DVD (whether + or - ) work on some DVD players but not on others. If you are not aware of the issue then you can spend quite some time wondering what went wrong!

    best format for dvd player

To create a 'normal' DVD from your native DV footage for use on a standalone player (i.e. under your TV) - the output format has to be MPEG2. For UK use this also means a full PAL resolution of 720x576 pixels. Please note that you cannot just use any MPEG2 codec as it has to be within the...

    start up

Video editing is possibly the most resource intensive situation you will encounter in the home environment. As an example, I use a desktop PC with 3.2GHz CPU, 2 GB RAM, and 400GB of hard disk solely used for the video footage. If you are capturing from a DV camcorder then the raw footage will...

    100 meter disaster! Help Help

Phew... seem to be doing a good bit of posting tonight (my first night registered here), anyhow... on to the problem in hand... Diluted cement over all the flags is never a good idea - there is no substitute for professionally pointed paving (or at least pointed the correct way by a competant...

Blanket Loft Insulation 270mm - Where to Buy ?

Do you definitely need 270mm? I know that's what is recommended on the website but in the past I have used 150mm followed by a 100 mm cross lay. This tends to work out cheaper and is much easier to handle. You also get the benefit of ensuring no air gaps between the rolls. Alternatively...

    Decking Screws

Hmmm... whilst I have done a few decking jobs I am by no means an expert! However, by comparison I have used 70mm Timco Dextra yellow passivated screws when using either a 25mm or 32mm decking board. This means I am 50/43mm in the frame/joists (allowing for 5mm countersink) which is plenty of...
