    Rough idle VW golf 03

VW's of that vintage were plagued by dodgy coil packs, though if it had one chances are it would have been replaced long ago. Could be worth a look if the other cheaper fixes dont work.

Boxing promoter Frank Maloney is now Kellie Maloney..

I worked at a place where there was a transgender man-to-woman. He'd been working in the company as Mister, took leave and came back as Miss. Same job, same desk. Decidedly weird I can tell you. She did look like a man in drag - the mens watch, mens glasses and hairy knuckles really didnt...

Cyclists should be banned off certain roads

Because the amout of tax coming in would be insignificant compared to the amount of political capital the opposition parties would gain with hysterical yells of "Party X put tax on Childrens Tricycles!!" People still go on about "Not voting Conservative cos of Thatcher." and she stopped being...

Are there any collectors of old military items on here?

Ross rifles were issued to the Home Guard during WW2, along with US P14 & P17 rifles.

Not Kwik-Fit, but I had one of these sort of places once claim I needed replacement shock absorbers. On my Citroen BX...

    More woe for the oil-burners.

Possibly... Any time the government comes up with an excuse of "It's for the good of the environment!" as a reason to raise taxes on something I have to take the studies provided with a massive pinch of salt. Funny how the more fuel efficient, cleaner and long lasting cars get, the more...

Tesco. Worst results for forty years

I got tired of being taken for a mug by Tesco. All those deceptive pricing stickers trying to make you think an item is on special offer :x , or the special offer prices that expired days ago they just didnt take the sticker off  These days I tend to shop at Sainsburys more - quality...

    Builders brews!!

The sort of crap they play on Radio 1 doesn't sound any worse if the radio has been splattered with plaster, paint and brick dust.

    Builders brews!!

Years ago I read on the BBC website that one of the slightly more useful university student final thesis' was on making tea. Apparently for regular tea the optimum time for the bag to brew is 2 minutes.

    asian kids

My history may be a little fuzzy on a Monday morning with only half a cup of office-grade coffee inside me, but didnt we Brits ask / encourage members of our former colonies to migrate to Britain at the end of the war and do all the menial jobs the native Brits didn't feel like doing?

    More diesel news!

We should go back to using horses. Then when the county is knee deep in horsecrap we can point out to the eco-weenie lobby that it's a natural, bio-degradable output.

Do All Recent Diesels Have Potential Partic. Filt. Problems?

IIRC Jaguars - of the rebodied Ford Mondeo variety - use a special fluid to help clear the DPF that needs topping up ocasionally. My VAG with a DPF is of the take it for a blast variety. Word is in the new MOT test the tester is required to check for a DPF if the car is supposed to have one...

    Export drive

Is it just me or do the posting styles of collisioni and whitenoflight look just about identical in terms of spelling, grammar, punctuation, general content and the fact they registered within a few days of each other and dont appear to have posted anything outside of the GD forum?

Making adjoining walls more sound proof

Ideally you need to put in a false wall, fully detached from the existing party wall, but 10-15cm might be a bit on the narrow side to do it. Have a google around there are plenty of pages (and some interesting Youtube vids) on soundproofing - but basically you can put in a double skinned layer...

    oil on driveway

As long as the oil isnt soaked in, clothes washing powder works pretty well - make up a small but strong solution, give it a good scrub in and wash off. NB wear your marigolds as it doesnt do your skin much good!

    In car extra-compact fire extinguisher

I'll be getting a 2kg (possibly 3kg) one for the boot cubby, this is just for the passenger compartment should I ever go abroad and is the "My car is upside down and my legs are on fire" extinguisher that might buy me an extra couple of minutes in event of a disaster.

    In car extra-compact fire extinguisher

Bit of a long shot, but I'm looking for a small (<1kg) fire extinguiser for the car in the short & fat shape rather than tall and thin. My new ride as front seat storage bins that are too narrow to take my existing 600g or 1kg extinguishers - I need something max 22cm tall by 75mm wide. I've...
