    Bathroom - Wallpaper Removal

Score the surface, then use a steam stripper. Usually does the trick. But what kind of wallpaper is it, is it that imitation tiled stuff?

    Fireplace: replace vs retile?

Tiled fireplaces were very popular at one time, and probably will be again eventually, so there may be some advantages in refurbishing the one you have got as has been suggested. I have often noticed presenters on TV Makeover shows saying that a lovely old fireplace had been revealed...

    Bathroom tiling

No, it never is it :) If you take the old tiles off, take them all off before you start, then you will be able to judge whether you have to reskim the walls before you begin the tiling.

    Duplicate emails with Outlook Express

Try this Go to Tools, Options Then on the general tab, if there is a tick in the box "When starting go to my index folder" remove the tick. That solved the same problem for me.

    Polycell Smoothover Good or Bad??

I have used it. It does what it says on the tin. But on the whole, I think it would be best to have the walls skimmed with plaster.

Bathroom tiling- can I check I'm doing it right!

I did this job a few years ago. You may find yourself in difficulty if you try to level out the plaster as you go. Vital to have a level flat surface in my opinion. Also vital to get the first row of tiles exactly right, if you have never done tiling before, do not be too ambitious with...

    Gas cooker .... not cooking

You were not given the correct information in Currys You can look up details of any Cannon Cookers on their web-site, here http://www.cannoncooking.co.uk/macro/products.d2w/report To check whether your present cooker oven is functioning correctly, the best way is to buy a packet of...

    Vintage Gas Cooker Conversion!

Not sure about the tap handle, will have a look though. Sorry not been on this site for a while because of being in hospital. This series of cookers was originally developed, because the sheet steel construction would be easier to get up to some of the high rise flats that were being...

    Cutting hedges

Best to leave it until the weather gets warmer in my opinion. But of course it depends what type of hedge it is. If it is privet, lonicera etc, it will not be growing anyway when it is frosty, so no need to hurry. You need a lot of fertiliser for an apple tree, I have never found any...

    Kitchen tiles

No 2 is the only realistic way. You would be very lucky indeed if you removed all the tiles without causing damage to the plaster.

    Bath Mildew removal

I have found Flash Gel with bleach, does the job. Be very careful though, make sure the bath will not be damaged. Just leave it on for about ½ hour. Read the instructions first. I protected my bath with masking tape, and just put the gel on the sealant. Vim with bleach (the scouring powder...

    Painting Bathroom Tiles

Only today I received an email from a friend who had painted over his tiles. He is so unhappy, now removing them, probably some of the plaster too :( and having it redone with new tiles.

Cannon Oakley Gas Cooker - Removal

If it was fitted 2 years ago by a Corgi registered fitter, it is almost certain it is fitted with a rubber tube into a bayonet connection . These can sometimes be rather stiff, so just try holding the wall connection firmly, push the tube upwards and twist, and it should come out.

Replacement gas fire outset or inset?

A fire surround is advisable for both types of fire in my opinion. If your present outset fire is one of the radiant/convector fires with a wooden case, they are usually fairly satisfactory without a surround. Why do you want to change Some useful information on this web site...

Conifers - How do I remove them?

It is hard work, but it can be done. I pushed the spade in just a short way from the trunk, and hit the top of the blade with a sledge hammer, to cut through the roots. You have to do this all round the tree of course, but then you should be able to wiggle it out.

    Vintage Gas Cooker Conversion!

Main Centurian was a very good cooker. One of the first to be built with steel panels rather than cast iron. I sold quite a lot of them. I still have a couple of spare tap handles for it. But great care is needed. It will not have the flame failure device that is now standard on all gas...
