    bendy plasterboard

I used some plasterboard dampened and bent to fit on the wall underneath my bay window, and was quite pleased with the result. The plasterboard needs to be well dampened, and left for a couple of days, and then gently bent into shape. I live near Cadeby, and have found Theobolds a very...

    Garage Inspection Pit.

When I had a new garage a few years ago now, I was contemplating a pit. But talking to a friend, he put me off the idea. As he said, you will often find friends and relatives phoning you asking if they can bring the car over and use your pit for the day. Think carefully, you may be giving up...

Installing an Extractor Fan in a Bathroom through the wall

Most electricians would expect to drill the hole themselves, and would prefer to I should think. Could you install it in the ceiling, and run a duct to the outside wall in the roof space?

Parkinson Cowan Gas Cooker/ Moffat 500TC

Unfortunately, you are not allowed to carry out repairs yourself, so it would be best to contact a Corgi registered engineer. Could be a faulty oven thermostat. But if you have the oven door open, and are watching the flame, the burner will not alter much, because it is operating on the room...

Which grows quicker - laurel, holly or photinia red robin

Laurel is much the fastest of the three you name. But at 12' high, and usually quite thick as well, you might find it hard work keeping it in check. My choice would be Photinia. Would take a few years, but would make a splendid hedge in my opinion. I have an escallonia in my front...

    Plastering chases

I agree with Richard C. One coat is the easiest to use, and gives a reasonable finish, for anyone not skilled in plastering.

    Outside Toilet Renovation

I have a similar place, and it is looking quite acceptable now. The brickwork was repointed where necessary. I brushed the whole lot down with a wire brush. Applied stabilizing solution, then Masonry Paint. Over the toilet cistern I hung a gaily striped curtain. Retiled the floor. Will try...

    Skirting Boards Old and Painted

I had some skirting board made at a local DIY store last year. They made a perfect match and it was not expensive

    Polyurathane Varnish

I mean white contiboard, the surface of which I find deteriorates quite quickly.

    Polyurathane Varnish

I am considering painting some contiboard with clear polyurathane varnish, to try and preserve the finish. Has anyone tried this, and was it successfull?

I have C.Cleaner installed and run it every night before closing down. I have it set to delete Cookies. This suits me fine, it is not much trouble to re-enter passwords in my opinion.

    Filtering out junk e-mail.

I have just had a new computer. The old one was 6 years old, and had Windows ME and Outlook Express. I had over the years compiled a large blocked senders list, and in Message Rules had entered all the usual naughty words, plus Viagra etc. This worked fine and I was getting very little spam...

    privet hedge

That is a wide hedge :) Privet is much maligned, but still makes a good hedge in my opinion. I saw one today, that I used to trim for my grandmother when I was a lad, 50 years ago, and it is still in good condition. I have found privet withstands severe cutting back, but I would not leave it...

    painting wooden floor

If you are thinking of using floor paint, be aware that it does not last too long in the traffic areas. But Sadolin and similar products are usually quite satisfactory

    New Washing machine

Think carefully before buying a washer/dryer. We have had one, and very unimpressed with the performance of the dryer. Others have told me the same thing. They are usually slow, and will only take a small load for drying

    Gas Oven not working

Probably a faulty flame failure device. These can only be fitted by Corgi registered engineers.

Venting a Tumble Dryer up a chimney

We had one of those boxes. Were not very impressed. Fiddly to set up and keep topping up with ice cold water. The only satisfactory answer to your problem is to have a condensing dryer.
