lawn aerator and scarifer help.... please

seneca Maintaining a nice green weed and moss free lawn is hard work. A few years ago, the President of the English Greenkeepers Association called at my house. He said to me that if I followed all the published advice, re moss killing, weed killing, mowing regularly etc, after 20 years...

lawn aerator and scarifer help.... please

My aerator is one of those spring loaded roller types. It does do the job quite quickly. Digging hotes with a lawn aerator is a laborious and tedious job. Another way which is quite simple and effective is driving your spade in a few inches, then dribble a handful of sharp sand down the...

    re-pointing... prep tips please.

I would not attempt to do this job yourself. Apart from the neatness of the finish you must use the correct mix for the mortar. Unless the job is done by a skilled bricklayer, it could devalue the house in my opinion.

Desperate Help to Answer Radiator Question

I would not consider ccvering the radiators. I would get a fan assisted, radiator, which could be quite small.

Do I spend or not ?

We all like different things. For that reason, I certainly would not spend any money on it at all. Prospective buyers would probably welcome the opportunity to refit it to their own taste. I would make sure it is tidy and clean, ready for anyone to redecorate.

lawn aerator and scarifer help.... please

I think it is best to kill the moss first, otherwise the lawn raker will tend to spread it. Personally, I find that hand tools are the best. I use a lawn aerator which is simply rolled over the lawn, about £25 to buy now, I think. I also use a pull/push rake, which I find is quite...

Cleaning up marks from fireplace flue

This sounds like a balanced flue appliance, so it would be best to get it checked by a Corgi registered engineer. This staining should not occur

Cleaning up marks from fireplace flue

Does this metal flue come out at the top of a chimney stack? Is it the brickwork stained, or is it the internal decorations?

    sectional concrete garage

The reason I asked if there were reinforcing rods in the panels. If they do not have reinforcing rods, the garage would probably be a Marley who do not use them. You could also look in the weekend papers, at manufacturers adverts, and send to them for their brochures, you might be able to...

    sectional concrete garage

Look in FAQ's at the top of this Board. You will probably have to use an image hosting site. I use www.photobucket.com Quite easy to use. You could of course post you pictures to various Garage Manufacturers, and hope they respond. Compton, Sturdy, Marley etc.

    sectional concrete garage

I have a Compton Garage, and did get 2 new panels for it, which they delivered. I would have a good look round the garage to see if you can find any indication, probably near the door. Unless you know the manufacturer, I doubt if you will be able to get any panels. Do the panels have...

    Gas Cooker Installation

If you have a gas meter, there is no problem at all in fixing a gas cooker. But it is obviously easier and cheaper if you also have a point for a cooker in the kitchen. Then it will be connected with a flexible connection. It must be fixed by a CORGI registered installer, so consult your...

In trouble with some painting/decorating in Derbyshire

Julie I am still puzzled why the Polyfilla will not dry. If you take a blob of it out of the tub or tube, and lay it on any surface it will soon become hard. Old polyfilla will not go soft, it goes hard and is unusable. I think the that all you can do is to carry on with trying to remove...

In trouble with some painting/decorating in Derbyshire

I cannot understand why the Polyfilla did not dry, it normally dries quite quickly, is the wall damp? Was it an oil based gloss paint that is peeling off. It was quite popular in hallways a few years ago. If the walls were replastered recently, the plaster is presumably sound. Rather...
