    Traffic info volume?

Agile,I will copy out the instructions for TP volume from our Zafira audio manual.Vauxhalls about your year had, as standard fit radio's and radio cassettes by Blaupunkt,Grundig and Phillips, all probably similar but with different ways of setting things like this. The "bottom of the...

Nissan Almera Rear Drum Brakes/ Drum Removal

I think he has "jacking screw holes"in the drum, like the front of my Suzuki. Never done a Almera,so not dead sure. You get two gash 8mm bolts and screw them in alternately to "jack" the drum off against the hub flange. If the drum spigot was polished up and smeared with copperslip before...

Oops! Petrol into the diesel car

That's about right Stivino, the fuel running into the tank(whichever way you wrong fuel it) mixes it up into a unusable in anything fuel. If you put some into a glass container, and let it stand,it will eventually stratify with the diesel at the bottom. These days the SG of diesel is only around...

Oops! Petrol into the diesel car

Well softus,I thought you felt maligned, you were p***ed off anyway. Ron Gamma, thanks, apology accepted. And YES,I do think the motor trade has a lot to do to improve it's service. But,the lads on the shopfloor are bound by company policy.(the screenwash scam being one of many). Most of the...

Oops! Petrol into the diesel car

Well said Softus!!!!!!!!!!!! Why is it that every milkman, painter and treefeller, seem to think they are able to do better on vehicles than a professional. There are of course "cowboys" in every trade, but just because the bill may be large,it doesn't mean a rip-off has happened. :x You are so...

Peugot 807 diesel - Main dealer repair issues.

The main dealer probably has much experience of failing injector pumps, and should have been aware that as the pump wears away inside,it usually pumps debris up the injector pipes. This causes blockages in the spray holes, which are quite fine on modern diesels. Most dealers will not have the...

    Vauxhall Combo fuel problem

Most of the modern diesels no longer have a fuel lift pump,so the injector pump has to draw the fuel along from the tank through the filter. Then it pressures up and supplies the injectors. It's possible yours is not pulling too well,so starving the high pressure side. Most likely though, you have a...

Oops! Petrol into the diesel car

No,absolutely not. That was something to help prevent winter "waxing",years ago.The fuel you are buying at present will be "winter" diesel anyway, and needs no petrol or paraffin in it.Be aware that a injection pump for your car is around £800.Get the tank drained or you may feel a severe pain in...

Oops! Petrol into the diesel car

masona, what libby lou lou has said is about spot on.You haven't said if you have got it home,or it's still at the filling station?Main thing is hopefully you have not run it?Petrol will very quickly damage the injection pump,as it relies on the lubricity of the oily diesel as it passes...

Nissan Sunny 1989 B12 wont start

Is there a little "thimble"fuel filter in the carb inlet? Had similar symptoms to you on a mk1 astra, found the filter full of crud, cleaned it and all ok. Another thing to consider,is that the carb float may be stuck in the "up" position,so keeping fuel out of the carb.

    wired for sound

Don't know if this is any help,as I know little about modern Renault cars. On our Vauxhall Zafira, the steering wheel controls for the radio etc. rely on the battery in the ign. key being in good order. They are not hard wired, but work like a remote control. If the key battery goes down,so does the...

    COLD WEATHER AND DIESEL ENGINES

Well, yes and no. If your diesel is correctly maintained, regular oil and filter changes, air and fuel filter clean, then it should start ok in all weathers. In the cold weather though, anything not quite up to scratch can effect initial start up which may not be noticed when it's warmer. Check...

    Brake light is not working.

Iotrez,At one time you would definately have required a "standard"bulb, usually a twin filament 5/21W known as a 380.This gave a 5W rear light, then when you pressed the brake,a 21W light showed about four times brighter to show clearly "braking". With modern styling changes, big lamp clusters up...

    vauxhall corsa keeps losing power!

Alan,so many people write into this forum with the same symptoms as yourself. There is no easy answer other than to get your car to a garage,(doesn't have to be a Vauxhall place).Get it on the diagnostic computer, this will interrogate the ECU memory and hopefully pinpoint the problem. It sounds...

I agree with iain90210,this problem sounds like a poor earth return, which is improved by opening the doors.

    peugeot 405 engine mount

Just had a thought Topcat. On some of the Peugeot-Citroen engines, the bit on the engine which I think has damaged threads is bolted on itself so is not part of the engine. If this is the case, you could unbolt it and take it to whoever you find to heli-coil it.

    peugeot 405 engine mount

Hi Topcat, you need to remove the mount to confirm that the threads are damaged first. If that is the case then heli-coiling is your best option.Drilling out the mount and oversized bolts probably not a good idea. Yes,you could do heli-coiling yourself,it basically involves tapping out the...

Change timing belt on Corsa? No idea if its ever been done.

As it takes the same amount of work to get at it,I nowadays recommend changing the thermostat on Corsa's while the belt is off. Also,as you know little about it's history have a new coolant mix in.The corrosion proofing additives deteriorate after 2 years or so on most anti-freeze.

    peugeot 405 engine mount

Difficult to say why you have this problem, but sounds as if fixing bolts through mount to the engine came loose? The mount itself does not break in my experience.Suggest support the engine and remove the mount. If the threads on the engine are damaged due to loose bolts allowing movement, they can...
