    "Grout" for patios

So, I have a patio that has "grout" evidently composed of cement and sand. I guess the previous people used a dry mix fill the gaps. It's pretty good but in a few places needs to be topped-up. The problem is I don't want a 25Kg bag of cement and one of sand hanging around for the next twenty...

    Gable end painting

Surface is good but even though the path is 1m wide there is the vent pipe from the sewer in the way too.

Can those lifts be so narrow? Also, can a numpty use them!? ;)

    Gable end painting

No, not a scissor lift an extending pole thing. As usual, I'm going to try a half-@rsed solution first. Yes, maybe if I cut in carefully I can get away wit it. I can't spray it, I'm too clumsy which does not bode well for ladders and poles!

    Gable end painting

Only the wall. The fascias, windows, etc. are all PVC.

    Gable end painting

I have ordered a telescopic "thing" now. Seems a bit floppy - dunno how accurate it will be. Is there a technique that pro's use that we mortals are not allowed to know or do they just go for it!? I did get quotes but they were around the £2k mark. I'd rather let the house fall down.

Yeah, can't do that the neighbour has loads of fancy "stuff" there.

    Gable end painting

I have a gable end to paint that is 5m high. The problem is that thee is a tall fence just 1m from this wall and I cannot put a ladder or anything the other side. A ladder that reaches up the wall is so unstable as it can't get back away from the wall far enough. What is the best way to paint...

Gas boiler roof vent: bird nesting problem

Currently, on the pitched roof. It's not about safe operation but about the birds: noise, poo, etc.!

Gas boiler roof vent: bird nesting problem

gas112, thanks for the reply. Could I get a flue installed in the wall rather than the roof? Unfortunately, the boiler is right in the middle of the house so it would require extending the part in the loft to the gable.

Gas boiler roof vent: bird nesting problem

We've only just moved here and I think the twigs were from last year. Anyway, I went up to see what type of screws held the spikes on and they basically fell off in my hand - see photo - no spikes! I'd rather have a proper solution. Cheers.

Gas boiler roof vent: bird nesting problem

We have one on those standard "pipe/vent" in the roof from the gas boiler. Birds tend to want to build a nest in the angle between the pipe and the roof. We have bird spikes there but these just seem to help them anchor their twigs in place! Is it possible: a. to get a "venting solution" that...

    Flushed with success or unhinged?

I would like to buy some quality 50mm flush hinges. Not those crappy stamped one but nicely engineered with very little "looseness". Any recommendations for a supplier? Cheers.

    Out damp spot!

So I know I have rising damp in an old granite wall. This will be taken care off properly in the spring. However, the in-laws are over for Crimbo and various other bods in Jan so I need to cover-up the ugly damp patches. Can anyone please recommend a good "damp proof" interior paint, etc. that...

    Wet box

The hole is the socket cutout, about a foot from the floor, and the moisture is from condensation as we're in a converted barn and it's a three feet thick granite outside wall in a north facing corner There is nothing to be done about the damp and it isn't too bad on the surface: just requires...

    Wet box

I have a socket on a wall that gets a little damp. It's not terrible but nothing seems to stop it. Is there something I could seal the "hole" with so that the damp doesn't corrode the metal box ... again! Cheers.
