18v cordless ryobi jigsaw cuts out immediately when sawing

I charged the 1.5a brand new lithium battery 2wks ago. But actually you were right it was indeed the battery. I was so surprised it didn't hold its charge in that time! Surely this can't be normal? I recharged again used a couple of mins on 4 pieces of 2x3 timber and its low again!

18v cordless ryobi jigsaw cuts out immediately when sawing

I have just started using a brand new 18v Ryobi Jigsaw today, but every time the blade makes contact with the wood - the jigsaw cuts out. I am using the Ryobi blades supplied and I also tried other blades to rule this out, but still the same thing happens. It runs ok in idle mode, but as soon...

can i use coach screws instead of bolts in a bunk bed?

I was taking about coach screws, yes, because I was going to drill into the ends of the side rails from the posts (and it seemed like the easier way to fix together without using those threaded inserts/dowel capsule things or furniture bolts like from ikea. But now I'm using two sets of thinner...

can i use coach screws instead of bolts in a bunk bed?

change of plan, I've just seen some cheap timber at B&Q: 38x63x2440mm or 2.5"x1.5" (for £2.44) I figured I could make an L shape on each corner by screwing pairs of these together (using 8 in total of these as posts). I could use 6x65mm or 5x75mm screws to join 2 of these together...

can i use coach screws instead of bolts in a bunk bed?

will do (probably take a few weeks though). Do you not think that 2 coach bolts in each side would weaken a 2x4 post (with 4 holes in a small area) especially if it has a 1 inch notch in it too? (actually i'll probably only insert 1 coach bolt in the side which has the notch and i suppose...

can i use coach screws instead of bolts in a bunk bed?

If I'm making a bunk bed with 2x4 timber for the legs and horizontals (side rails and stuff), can I use coach screws instead of bolts 100mm. - as this would avoid having bolts sticking out, and also, if I use 4 inch timber connected to 2 inch side rails a bolt would have to go through the...

advice for building bunk beds out of just MDF boards

Thanks for the replies, here's my latest plan: Timber Frame: 2x3inch posts measuring 96cm x 200cm. Horizontal beams 2x4inch. 12mm plywood (hopefully not from China, but Marine ply looks almost twice as expensive!). I'm wondering about the fixings which will connect the horizontals to...

advice for building bunk beds out of just MDF boards

I have seen the 2 following plywood on B&Q - WBP exterior plywood 12mm thick and temperate softwood ply @18mm thickness. I'm thinking that the 12mm one should suffice if I use a timber frame using 2x3inch wood and brace the plywood to this? ...unless the wbp exterior is just for...

advice for building bunk beds out of just MDF boards

I've never heard of marine ply personally, I presume it was mentioned because its either stronger - or to avoid moisture/damp damage - if slats were not used..? I suggested MDF as that's what's used in this one: http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Double-Decker-Bus-Bunk-Bed_214449752.html...

advice for building bunk beds out of just MDF boards

Thanks for the replies. I now understand about the slats. However the bus bunk beds I have seen definitely said mdf and I can see they did not use slats and are available in the shops. I presume you mean use plywood for shaping the shell but using timber perhaps 2" x 4" thick for the frame?

advice for building bunk beds out of just MDF boards

I am going to try and build some bunk beds out of MDF boards. I have seen similar designs on the internet for double decker kids bunk beds and also campervan style bunk beds also made out of MDF boards. I can't get hold of instructions (as a guide) to follow from existing proven designs...
