    Hot Water Cylinder Set-up

I see what you mean, I thought I'd mentioned unvented in the posts.. sorry. I think 'unvented' is a given nowadays though

Does anyone know who stocks / manufacture cold water accumulator tanks? 500 litres (ish) if possible. :)

    Hot Water Cylinder Set-up

Don't quite understand what you are saying. I always was going with an unvented cylinder. The questions were relating to set-up and controls.

    Hot Water Cylinder Set-up

That helps, thanks very much. I was thinking of the same set-up. Is there any set rules on when to switch the other cylinder on, you mentioned once a week for an hour, I assume that is all thats needed? Just one other thing; its the bronze pump on this cylinder - there will be times when the...

    Hot Water Cylinder Set-up

Yes, I think the most effective way would be to treat them as two systems, with two hot water loops, is that what you are suggesting? What would happen to circulation pump serving the hot water loop on the cylinder which will be used less frequently, would this just run all the time...

    Hot Water Cylinder Set-up

My thoughts were to feed each cylinder with separate flow and returns (controlled by a zone valve on each circ) to control each cylinder separately. Like you say I don't want to be heating 600 litres of water when only one of the cylinders is mainly needed. I would be using 2 unvented...

    Hot Water Cylinder Set-up

Just after some advice please, hot water installation on a very large house. The owner would like to have 2 cylinders; one to serve the two bathrooms that the owners will tend to use more often, and the 2nd to serve three bathrooms that would only be used when guests are staying over. 1.Would...

    Meter and DB position?

Just wondered what your thoughts were? Thanks

    Meter and DB position?

The plant room, as I call it, will be a store off the utility room, so you would be able to go in there to access it if needed i.e. you feet would stay dry  I think it will be best from what you have described to put both DB's in this area and run the circuits from that end of the house.

    Meter and DB position?

Thanks for the reply, I am leaning towards having the new supply brought in at the end of the house next to the new plant room. However, the other option, when I said 'central' it is central to the house but that will also be on an outside wall i.e. it isn't in the middle of the building...

    Meter and DB position?

the supply cable will be wherever we want to put it, the existing building will be coming down and a new house built in its place. It is just a normal medium size detached house with none of the items that you have described. There are no cable ducts between floors, they will need to run within...

    Meter and DB position?

What does it depend on? I guess it is a compromise between dragging your cables to one end of the house, but have the plant room equipment and space nearby.... or have a DB central to the house which allows easier cable routes? What are your thoughts :) Cheers

    Meter and DB position?

Generally, would electricians prefer to install the incoming electrics and D.B. within a cupboard located centrally in the house, or within the plant room at one end of the house? :o Also, does anyone know if a 3-phase meter can fit within a standard meter box in the wall?

    TMV question?

So is there any way of stopping the cold 'mixing'. Is there a valve to allow this?
  17. J

    TMV question?

Does anyone know if there is normally a isolation valve on the cold supply to a TMV in order to close the cold supply and basically bypass the TMV so no mixing occurs. Even at its maximum setting, around 48degC, the hot water temperature is to low for the owner of the house. The mixing valve was...

    Problem with Vaillant 437 boiler

The system has a 42mm. main pipe which the flow to the 2 no. CH zones and 1 no. HW zone are taken from. The returns all common together to feed back to the boiler. Im afraid I am unsure how to upload a picture. Is a low loss header different to what I am refering to? Is this more of a purpose...

    Problem with Vaillant 437 boiler

I shall try to reduce the heat load of the boiler and keep you posted on whether this works. MickeyG, is there not a 'header' created on these types of system anyway, are you suggesting some kind of shunt pump may be required.

    Problem with Vaillant 437 boiler

I believe there are 15/60 pumps fitted to the system and they are all on their highest setting. By reducing the boiler heat load to say, 28kw or so, in what way is this likely to help get rid of the S53 code. Does it mean the boiler won't need to push out as much heat therefore increasing the...
