    Flexi pipe leaking mid way

Hi, There's a flexi pipe fitted to the flush of my toilet and after about 5-6 years it's sprung a leak half way. It's NOT at the joints as you can see it clearly spurting out a jet when the loo is flushed. Pipe hasn't been disturbed and there appears to be no damage so I wondered if it's usual...

Socket is going to be hidden behind cupboard.

Thanks for all your replies! Normally I would consider making an access panel of some sort or removable shelf, but the cupboard is really small and I wouldn't like to be the one twisting my back at all sorts of angles to squeeze in there to check the wiring of a socket. Plus also the wires come...

Socket is going to be hidden behind cupboard.

Can't cut a hole as a shelf needs to go slap bang across the socket, and shelf height can't be changed. What type of gland did you mean? like just an open grommet with a tie wrap to strain relief the cable (not sure if that's allowable?) or a compression gland?

Socket is going to be hidden behind cupboard.

Hi, I’m building a cupboard and there’s a double socket (on a ring) that’s going to be hidden behind it, which is a problem when it comes to maintenance and accessibility of that socket. I’d also like to take advantage and run a flex out to a new socket installed on the side of the cupboard. I’m...

    Painting or colouring oiled timber

You’re right there Matty, I’ve had the shelf randomly propped up on a radiator for many days and she’s walked past it several times and said nothing. Only when I go to trim it, fit it, and finally finish it then there’s a problem! :(

    Painting or colouring oiled timber

Evening, So I made a really lovely wide shelf out of tulipwood and oiled it with osmo oil, and fitted it. All looks very nice (to me), BUT the wife decides it’s too yellow and needs to either be Dulux white or have a blue-ish colour to match the blues/greys used in the room. I might as well...

    Cement mixer

Regular size shovels don't go into the 63L mixers, but on the other hand the little 63L mixers are easy to carry around. I'd go for a decent 2nd hand 134/140L, keep it clean, and sell it at end of job!

Alternates to NICEIC for signing off work by self-builders etc?

Thanks for all your inputs guys. I was sure in my overheated mind that two companies were at Pleasley Mill and that confused me why two competitors would be right next door to each other! I’ve not heard of the ECA before but have just checked out their website, I couldn’t see entry requirements...

    Draught from ceiling cable holes

Talylortwocities, there was insufficient information to say what type of light fitting was installed (hence Sparkwright's additional questions). This could simply have been a pendant fitting with the cabling coming through an old lathe or p/board ceiling. It's up to the original poster to say...

Alternates to NICEIC for signing off work by self-builders etc?

Hi, I do electrical work on my own properties rather than as a full time paid job, so my needs of signing off works and certifying are very low and infrequent. I was with NICEIC last year and don't even think I signed off a single job that year! I've seen this discussed in many posts but times...

Irrigation system fed from a river

Thanks Exedon, I got in touch with Anglian and they've recommended a suitable on-land self priming pump rather than a submersible, so all looks good there. Unfortunately they couldn't assist with the filtration side though so I'm open for suggestions from anyone that might have any ideas on...

Irrigation system fed from a river

Hi, What with the spiralling cost of water and everything else, I’m looking to feed our garden irrigation system from the river and wondered if anyone else had undertaken a similar project and what advice on pumps/filtering/etc they could give? (Yes I checked and in my area it’s ok to abstract...

Is there a reliable flush mount ceiling occupancy sensor anyone could recommend?

Right then, I’ve just bought a couple of Timeguard SLFM360N PIR detectors. Looks encouraging as at least they’ve got CPC connectors to terminate the wire inside the fitting! Only time will tell and it’s not been very windy today so will update with what I find……..

Is there a reliable flush mount ceiling occupancy sensor anyone could recommend?

Yes they're definitely PIR's and not microwave ones, I've heard microwave ones can be triggered from the floor above and so I can't see any reason for anyone to use them domestically. Current one is a Sebson brand PIR and refuses to even turn on today - Lord give me strength! (wiring is all OK...

Is there a reliable flush mount ceiling occupancy sensor anyone could recommend?

Good idea I'll try with some tape today as it's especially windy out there right now.

Is there a reliable flush mount ceiling occupancy sensor anyone could recommend?

Hi, I’ve just installed a new bathroom with PIR switch for the ceiling lights (and fan). I’m now on my THIRD sensor due to one problem or another! 1st sensor - ebay cheapy - randomly made one LED light flash at high frequency, and just affected one light but again in a random order. 2nd sensor...

Avoiding noise and smells when making waste for dishwasher?

Lovely looking job there MJN - I’ll aim to be as neat as that! I see the venting is done through the sinks too, so gets rid of need of AAV I reckon, and probably a good distance from the dishwasher spigot to the trap to avoid it blasting out the trap water or making too much noise me thinks too.
