Advice on position of front door

Thanks. Moving the stairs was too costly, it's a chalet bungalow and would mean a layout change upstairs. We were thinking of adding a hall where the current fronrdoor is but then we eat into the lounge and end up with two halls. As you say the door in the centre feels like the right place. I...

Advice on position of front door

We are tweaking our layout downstairs. The front door is currently in an odd position, you can see it on the plan. It goes in via the side of a porch and then directly into the lounge. Then there is a side door entering a hallway with the stairs. My partner wants to get rid of the front porch...

Renovation plans for bungalow. Feedback please

That's a good idea but should the height be on the plans? I can go back to get clarity. I can see the eaves are marked out but I'm not clear how far they eat into the room.

Renovation plans for bungalow. Feedback please

Hi, We are embarking on renovating the upstairs of a bungalow. It's been a hard slog deciding to sell or renovate. This is the plan for the upstairs but I am concerned the rooms are too small and hoped to get some feedback. Room 2 is fine but wondered about the other rooms. With eaves to take...

    Condensation in porch and mould

Thanks. I saw some Fungicidal Wash and mould killing and prevention paint at Wickes. So I will try this first. How do I ventilate the porch? Do I need someone to stick in an air brick? I'm also trying to work out how to draught exclude the front door. Will that help? Do those sticky foam...

    Condensation in porch and mould

I could turn the heating off but then when someone moves in it will just come back. There is no water coming down the chimney its been prevented but the actual house has no condensation it's just the porch area.

    Condensation in porch and mould

Thanks. Yes the fireplaces are open as they are solid fuel. There is bad insulation on the front door, not the bottom but on the sides so I gather the warm air is coming through. I'm a bit clueless with DIY as my dad always helped but since he passed away I have struggled. I'm not even...

    Condensation in porch and mould

A few months ago plaster board was put onto the walls inside our old PVC and glass porch to hide the damaged brickwork underneath. Not long after I noticed the windows in the porch were wet from condensation and now the painted paster board has mould on it. Should we have the plasterboard...

    Loud thud and lights flicker

Thanks. There was a huge thud and he lights went out in the kicthen and downstairs bedroom where my elderly mother is and has access to bathroom. Those won't come back on. I can also smell a slight tinge of burning in the living room. I am scared to turn everything off as it will be...

    Loud thud and lights flicker

Not recently but it's problematic. It's an Isar combi and always causing problems. Could a fault on that cause a problem? If so I will switch it off for the night I'm wondering what is causing the thud. It;s like something comes into play and creates a surge.

    Loud thud and lights flicker

I was sitting in the living room when the lights flicked off and on. What fuse do I pull? Sorry I am so naive about all this. I guess Im concerned something will catch fire.

    Loud thud and lights flicker

For the past few nights there has been a loud thud in the house. I couldnt tell where it was coming from. Then tonight it's happened about 5 times and was really loud and co-incided with the lights flickering. I am assuming it's something electrical. Although at 4am the fire alarms went...
