    LIME PUTTY PLASTERING QUERY

Just to add my twopennyworth, lime putty plastering as TM advised is correct but you need to be aware it does not behave like render or skimming. It needs to be constantly wetted with a fine spray both before, and during scratch and finish coats, regularly,if you don't it will crack for sure,it...

    damp on chimney breast

Absolutely concur also, if the damp staining is brown, the years of wood/coal burning will have left deposits up the chimney brest that will undoubtably bleed through the brickwork.Only way out is hack off back to substrate and waterproof render then skim finish.

    Hygroscopic salts?

Hi Phil, Sounds very much like a wall floor /junction problem. The internal and exterior internal wall skins are probably built off the slab and Dpc's and Dpm's can be somewhat lacking to say the least. Hygroscopic salts are formed from rising ground water[ not neccesarily rising damp in it's...

    Do all southerners...

Re visiting "The Pool" recently I met up with an old mate who's wife is a tescher. The school she works in is a tadge rough and apparently one female student was noted for personal hygiene problems so one day she gives her a note to give to her mother about this problem, the mother turns up...

Is it rising damp? if so what to do?

The bubbles etc you describe sounds like salts contamination to the wall, they draw water content from the air [efflorescense] and react as you have descibed and yes it probably is a result of rising damp. You would need a competent person with a Protimeter to survey the areas to determine this...

Anderton 3 in 1 Damp Lining paper

Hi JB, Sorry for delay, if youve had DPC injection/re-plastering etc you should also have a 20 or 30 year guarantee issued by the firm that did the work.Did they do all the works or did someone inject your walls and another firm do the plastering as a matter of interest?Either way it's...

Anderton 3 in 1 Damp Lining paper

Hi ,you say that you had the damp treated, what was done and how long ago, If you mean DPC injection and replastering damp treatment then any redecoration should be treated as temporary for at least 12 months,If the wall was treated with some sort of tanking or waterproof mixture then this...

    Can anyone help, damp probllem.

Hi,The partition wall you mention between your kitchen and hallway and that your in the middle of a block of 6 gives some clues here. The company that installed the de-humidifiers would have had to give the insurance companies loss adjuster a detailed report of the Relative Humidity [moisture...

    Ceiling artex matching

Robbie is exact on this but no two people will create the same stiple pattern, if the original is only 2 foot square why not scrape / steam it off and do the whole lot with your own unique stipple finish, good luck

    Repair Kitchen Screed

On top of the block and beam should be Dpm of 1200 to 1400 guage,Then should be insulation of minimum 80mm of Kingspan or similar, then a vapour barrier topped off with 75mm screed [ reinforced or not ]dependant upon foot traffic , not quite sure what your describing but it don't sound right.

    Cancelation contracts

Am I being thick here or,as Iam now starting to think,do tradespeople actualy recognise the seriousness of this legislation. Basically from October 2008 it is now law that any contract over £35.00 that you Quote/estimate for you have to give your customer a 7 day cancellation clause from start...

    Berlin wall 20 years on

My dad was stationed in Berlin at that time and I remember [I was 13] there was a shop on the west Berlin side right at checkpoint Charlie where that if you were going on a Military Police escorted trip to the the Eastern Sector , shopping, they would exchange 4 East German Marks for 1 West...
