Vivaro 1.9 Stop Light & Engine Light on

Lightly scrape the key on the ground to earth out any static electricity. Put the key in, switch on the ignition then leave it for a few minutes. If the red light goes out, the engine will start. If the light flashes rapidly, the immobiliser chip in the key is not being recognised. Check all...

    gearbox whine

I suspect this is a fault with the clutch release bearing. Once the clutch is depressed, you effectively disconnect the gearbox from the engine, and the gearbox stops rotating, so there shouldn't be any noise. You need a professional to look at it, because either way, the gearbox will have to...

ford focus 1.8 zetec cut out wont start

This could be absolutely anything, fuel system related, ignition system or broken timing belt ??. Sorry, but you're going to have to find someone to look at it.

    corsa starting prob

Yes, I think you can remove the rear seat, and then an access panel. On some cars you have no alternative but to take the tank out. There should be some 'fat' wires on the fuel pump, and some 'thin' ones. The fat ones are the feed and earth for the fuel pump. Check that you have a live feed to...

    corsa starting prob

Vauxhall fuel gauges are prone to being unreliable. You must have at least a quarter of a tank. Your car should be fuel injected. If you have a spark, you should also have injection, therefore you must have a faulty fuel pump.

ford transit van wont turn over

Sorry, I missed the "R" reg bit, so your engine won't be a common rail type. To test the battery : connect a voltmeter to the battery. You want to see 12.2 volts or above. Disconnect the wire on the diesel fuel pump stop solenoid so that the engine won't start. Now ask someone to crank the...

    corsa starting prob

Switch on the ignition and wait......... does the "spanner" light on the dash flash very rapidly ? If so, the immobiliser system is not recognising the transponder chip in the key. Please supply more information on what's actually happening when you try and start the car.

Corsa no power, emissions light, judders and stalls

Change the crankshaft sensor (they're about £30).

ford transit van wont turn over

Transits suffer from starter motor failures due to the dual mass flywheel breaking up and putting iron filings into the starter. The battery and all connections must be in good condition. If the fuel system is the HDI (common rail) type, then your fuel pressure regulator may need changing.

    FIAT PUNTO WIPER MECHANISM

Toyota do a forked clip that slides under the ball, and the top of the clip holds the socket on to the ball. I've got the part number somewhere, but they're very cheap, and can be used to repair any ball and socket linkage. The last one I used was on a Renault clutch pedal assembly !

corsa lacking power, emmisions light flashing

First of all, remove and check your spark plugs. Check that they are all the same colour, or better still, replace them. The next step is to check the cylinder compressions. They'll probably be o/k, so the next step will be the coil pack. There are obviously other checks that can be carried out...

    51 plate mondeo not starting

Has it definitely got a good spark ? If not, you need to find out why. If it has, check for live feed to injectors, then you will need a Noid light (it's like a bulb you fit into the injector plug). If you haven't got a Noid light, use an L.E.D circuit tester accross the pins in the plug and...

    Merc van slow starting

Be careful in trying to remove your glow plugs as they often seize in, and one of them is extemely difficult to remove due to it's position.

Peugeot 306 - engine cut outs

The first picture shows that the tamper seal is missing from the idle speed adjuster. This adjustment is factory set, then sealed. The idling is then controlled by the E.C.U. There are electrical contacts in the throttle housing, and if these have been upset by somebody messing with the idle...

    Vauxhall Vivaro 09 Reg

That's a lame excuse. I sometimes go into BT workshops, and they tell me it's a very common problem with the Vivaro, and sometimes they end up having to fit a new cylinder head. Be a bit firmer with your dealer !

40 years in the motor trade mate, 30 spent out on the road doing breakdowns

Renault Clio Privilage (2001) Immobiliser / Key Fob Problem?

The aerial around the ignition is not reading the transponder chip, which is why you have to turn the key over. These keys also suffer from a build up of static within the key. Scrape the key lightly on the ground, and then switch on the ignition. Wait for the red dot to go out before attempting...

    fault code

I can't find that fault code in the list of Vauxhall fault codes, but from experience, althought the "F" light is flashing on the dash indicating a transmission fault, it can often be a faulty crankshaft sensor. This located just above the nearside drive shaft, and costs around £30.

Leaving engine running without keys in

My company vehicle has an electronic anti theft system fitted. You press a button, and then you can take the keys out of the ignition and the engine will continue to run. You cannot steal the vehicle because firstly, the steering is locked, and secondly, when you take the handbrake off the...

Leaving engine running without keys in

Machine sensed alternators are used in conjunction with external regulators, that's why if you spin them without being connected to a circuit, they will be damaged. Google 'machine sensed alternators', and you will find all the info you need.
