    punto woes.

The coil packs are wired in series, so if you have a misfire on one cylinder, it will take out the other cylinder also on that coil pack. As you have a misfire only on one cylinder, your next move is a cylinder compression check. Disconnect your crankshaft sensor from the plug at the top/front...

Peugeot 206 1.4 Auto idling issue?

Sounds to me like a sticking idle speed control valve. This valve should smoothly corrects the idle speed if the engine runs too fast or too slow. When it sticks, it will 'jolt' the idle speed up, then realises that it's gone too far. It will then 'jolt' the idle speed down again. Realising...

2001 VW Polo Rev clock working but not as it should be.

A lot of cars pick up engine revs from the alternator. The engine speed device for the emissions tester in my M.O.T station clips on to the battery exactly for this purpose.

    Replacement ignition coils

The original coils were made by Sagem for Renault. They later changed to Valeo as their supplier. There are other makes of coils around, i.e: Beru. Regarding your running problems, is the exhaust partially blocked ? if not, it really needs investigating by a diagnostic specialist.

    FIAT PUNTO Windscreen Wipers....Help Please

Not sure what you mean about a button on the dash, as the wipers on a Punto are controlled via the stalk switch. If you take one of your blue keys to a locksmith, he should be able to cut another one and also programme it from your key. This is called 'cloning' the key. It should cost you...

    Renault KANGOO

Make sure that your cooling system is drained and flushed out with water. Then re-fill with a decent quality anti-freeze. Do not mix anti-freeze types, as these can set like jelly if they're not compatible.

fuel gauge/sender unit possibily faulty ?

A diagnostic scanner will show the fuel pressure on cranking. If this is too low, it could be the electric fuel pump in the tank (if it has one). This is generally part of the fuel gauge sender unit as well, so this is possibly what the mechanic was on about. Another reason for low fuel pressure...

    Renault Scenic occasional misfire

Sorry, just re-read your post, so ignore first part of mine ! The Torx type bolts were fitted to the early Renaults, they were later swapped to conventional bolts with a 10mm spanner sized head. It's important that you use the correct size Torx bit (T25 ?), otherwise you'll never get them out...

    Renault Scenic occasional misfire

It's almost certain to be one of your ignition coils. Remove the plastic cover from the top of the engine (if it's got one), to expose the ignition coils. You do this by lifting up the front of the cover, then pull it towards you. It's quite tight as it's on rubber grommets. You will then see...

    Radiator fan not working?

Not sure about yours, but some cars will automatically put the fan on if you pull the plug of the temperature sensor. This is a safety device in the event of a sensor failure.

    Misfire under acceleration. vw polo

Don't trust ANYTHING. I've taken new parts out of a box and they've been faulty. The air leak may be the cause of your misfire, but this would normally put the engine management light on. The only way to check the air leak would be with a diagnostic code reader, or exhaust gas emission check.

    Misfire under acceleration. vw polo

If your plugs are Bosch, try and change them to NGK if they do an equivalent. Bosch electrics tend to be first class -- except the plugs in my experience. Another tip is to run the engine somewhere where it's pitch black. You will then see the plug leads glowing with a blue haze if they're...

What's the problem with the car ? Is the engine management light on ?

    Is it true

Once again, if an engine doesn't have air or fuel it will stall. Not if the engine is being rotated via the gearbox and the driven wheels. If the clutch is depressed, the engine revs drop, and the E.C.U switches the injectors back on. I've seen this simulated on a test bed.

    Radiator fan not working?

Ensure that all your coolant pipes and radiator are all the same temperature. It's possible that the thermostat is not opening. If the fan switch is in the radiator, there will never be any hot water in there, so the fan will not come on as it's not sensing hot water. Double check your fan fuse...

    Trolley jack wont lower

Mickymoody, you're talking drivel. Any trolley jack will lower under it's own weight if the release valve is opened fully.

    Is it true

Modern cars do indeed have a system called overrun fuel cut off. The ECU gets information from the speed of the road wheels, the engine revs and the position of the accelerator pedal. If the vehicle's speed is high, but the pedal is not being pressed, it deduces that the vehicle is going...
