[Photo] 3 Years+ Sewage Smells in the house (man hole to fill)

I PM'd Tom and he was very helpful. He still has the same issues even after the nest was cleared away. I'm going to buy some smoke pellets. I've also noticed a small wet patch on the ceiling! I had a look and there is a soil pipe in the roof space with a very slight drip! Maybe on a windy day...

Tom from another post (referenced earlier) has had all the same issues. He said that pipe lining made no difference.

Possibly. I'm not sure a grand is worth claiming. The next five years of premiums will be double what they are now make it a false economy.

I never told you about how I make a living growing money and that I teach pigs to fly did I? :P

Honestly I've got nothing better to do this weekend other than dig up my house with a few beers. Think I'm going to do it. I can't spend £1200 to get it lined when I can get off my ass and make a mess of it myself. Ha.

I uploaded the CCTV footage. 5.5 meters in shows the manhole. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/894044/soilpipe.m4v

I just don't know what to do. :( If builders and plumbers haven't been able to figure it out. I don't know how I can. I'm just a lowly computer geek. *Key radio 1 sad music*

I phoned a company and they said it would cost £970 ex VAT to line it.

You know what.. the builders though that where the old part of the kitchen was used to be a lean to with kids toilets and they found all kinds of pipes, bracks and crap. There could even be more adjoining pipes. This may be the best solution. I will have a look into it. Are there any...

Hi Frank, Yet more excellent advice! Thank you. We hired a local chap to come and do a CCTV inspection. He did it via the outdoor manhole cover which can be seen on the right in the architect's plans.

Thanks Russell! The smell is pretty constant in the hall, toilet and utility. We don't get a hit in the cupboard! I think it's the pipes leading from the manhole cover in the cupload that's the issue. As I said we are desperate now so will try anything (like this). It was fine when we bought...

Not much was done. We had a pitched roof instead of flat and the kitchen was a galley. The green area shows the new small extension. Other than that only non supporting internal walls were changed. So we can rule that out. Thanks Bernard. :)

You'd think so. Christ I hope so. I might see if I can just seal that part of the pipe rather than trying to fill the manhole. I've got one of those rubber bung things you screw to tighten so maybe use that and backfill with concrete. I suppose it depends what I find digging. I don't know how...

We never had sewage smells before the building work was done. This why I think the green pipe where the old toilet used to be is the culprit. When it's wet and rainy the smell is worse.

Thanks Bernard. I'd love to do that actually and have our own cess pit rather than being connected to the "Circle Anglia" one (local housing authority).

Here are the plans which include the soil pipes. You'll see that the new soil pipe goes immediately out the house. The smells are worst in the utility and downstairs toilet. I think that redundant pipe (green) is to blame. This is why I want to dig up the floor.

There's a lot of info. Sorry if I haven't been very helpful like that. I am dead set on digging it up. I just wanted to know how I can turn a half pipe into a full one (assuming I can get to it). We do own the whole house and it's got no other properties attached to it. There is a manhole...
