    Double glazing marking BS5713

if the inspector quibbles you could replace the sealed unit with one of current spec to get conformance. you could take the u value of the whole window as 2 for a rough calc.

    replacement sealed unit-externally beaded

is it laminated glass? this is normally 6.4mm, you may be measuring it as 7. you can tell a laminated pane by looking at the edge. you will see the plastic film between 2 sheets of glass. otherwise you are looking at a 20mm unit - is is to go back into a upvc or timber window?

    Need some info

if max sound insulation is required then i think 10mm float can be specified. ( i think it also satisfys safety glass requirements as well by the strength that it's thickness gives it, but check this). if you are triple glazing for sound insulation reasons i think that a double unit with 10mm...

Hope this is OK, it's not a question, but I was so impressed by the solution here - http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=199139 i thought i would post it for others that may have the same problem but think they need to adjust the hinges (not possible) or buy new ones (won't necessarily...

you want new espagnolette (espag) gearboxes. so identify the manufacturer (should be engraved) and model (harder) and you will hopefuly be able to replace just the gearbox. otherwise you will need to replace the entire locking mechanism with another compatible model. unscrew a handle as you...

sill on a sash window replacement advice

if you can;t find one in your timber yard, a decent woodworking shop or joiner should be able to make you up a new sill. i would strongly recommend hardwood, or at least well treated softwood.

sill on a sash window replacement advice

also after you have replaced the sill, the stiles will potentially be unsecured unless you joint them to the new sill (which may be difficult)

sill on a sash window replacement advice

it depends how the stiles are fixed to the wall. you want to make sure that they are not moved either in/out the builiding, up or down, or together/apart (i think this is the least likely way they will move)

sill on a sash window replacement advice

the window frame should normally be solidly fixed together at the corners., if the stiles move when you're removing or replacing the sill then the windows will not slide very well amongst other problems. you might be able to use metal L-brackets for example to keep them secure. or cut out...

sill on a sash window replacement advice

no i think that is all one piece. you will need to determine if there are spiral spring balances or traditional lead weights. you should be able to see the spring balances at the top. this may help -...

    Fitting woodend glas bead
