    Making sure I don't cause a flood.

Hi, New bathroom again (thanks for all help so far).... My job for this weekend is to remove asbestos CWC and plumb in a new Aqualisa Axis digital pumped shower. Below is my airing cupboard: I'm going to cut the pipe at (A) and replace with new copper from new CWC and replace...

    Reusing copper pipe

Sounds like the test is what the condition they are like inside. What does a lead solder joint look like? To my uneducated eye they look more like solder ring fittings than end feed. Don't know if that makes a difference. Also, there is lots of green and white residue about.

    Reusing copper pipe

Hi, About to start refurbishing a bathroom and doing some plumbing for the first time ever. Because I am installing furniture and turning the bath around I am going to need to route the pipework differently. Which begs the question of what to do with the old pipework? Can I just...

    Offset pan connectors

Replacing the soil pipe (or section of) seems a bit like overkill. Found this very useful previous topic: http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=661717#661717 1) The collar at the end of the soil pipe becomes redundant when using multikwik style connectors? These connect to the 3.5...

    Offset pan connectors

So, I'm planning on getting some bathroom furniture - vanity and WC unit with a back to wall pan. When everything is installed, I estimate the centre of the pan spigot to be 50-70mm to the right of the centre of the soil pipe (tricky operating a tape measure accurately behind an existing...

Confused about water pressure - what is going on?

Thanks, guys. I've seen comments in other posts about the lack of transparency about these required pressure figures from manufacturers and after looking at the websites I can see why. There is a vacuum of technical information. I got a glossy from Eastbrook that lists flow rates @...

Confused about water pressure - what is going on?

So, if I stay unpumped I need to find 3/4" washer taps and feed them with 22mm. Alternatively, I can pump the entire bathroom supply and get snazzy ceramic disc. And lots of noise. Saw this in some pump literature: "Check pressure requirements of shower/bathroom equipment to be used in...

Confused about water pressure - what is going on?

Hmmm, seems I got my calcs wrong...sorry Actual flow rate from the hot bath tap is 18l/min. Is greater pressure needed for ceramic disc taps because the hole at the disc is small, needing a greater force of water to push it through? Am I stuck with spindle taps for the bathroom?

Confused about water pressure - what is going on?

I'm in the process of planning a new bathroom and looking at all the various (cheap and costly) options and getting very confused about pressures and flow-rates etc Current setup: gravity fed vented system in 1939 house with one bathroom. As far as I can tell a 15mm rising main feeding all...

    Triton Satellite Shower

Has anyone got one / seen one in action? What's your opinion of it? http://www.tritonshowers.co.uk/wps/wcm/connect/TritonShowers/Internet/Products/TritonShowers/Satellites+Showers/ I quite like the idea of it as I won't have to: 1) research which pump to get 2) chase out a channel...

Shower water pressure / pump location

Hi, I am planning a new bathroom and would like to know people's opinion Current Situation: Cold header tank (25gal) sited directly on loft joists. Indirect hot water cylinder (25gal) in 'airing' cupboard where top of cylinder is approx 0.5m from ceiling. Power shower (cold feed NOT an...

That's great, thanks. Will probably just buy a shower-bath though, although the possibility is exciting...

    Building a bath?

Hi, Is it possible to build your own bath? e.g. Build a retaining wall, add a waterproof lining and tile it a bit like it was a small swimming pool. (I appreciate it is probably a very nieve question)

Raising cold header tank to increase hot water pressure

I want to install a new cold water header tank in the loft (the old one is the original asbestos cement one). I'm going to build a frame so it's sat nice and high and will give good hot water pressure. Now I understand the accepted wisdom to be that you insulate your header tank, but not...

    Voltage Drop calculation

    Are these calcs correct? Max volt drop is 4%, therefore a minimum of 11.52V supplied to each bulb From tables, 1.5mm2 2-core has a volt drop rating of 29mV/A/m Bulb A: i) 2 -> 1: I = 40W / 12V = 3.33A Volt-drop = 29 * 3.33 * 1m / 1000 = 0.097V ii) 1 -> A: I = 40 / (12-0.097) =...

    Voltage Drop calculation

I understand how to do this for a single point to point cable, e.g. 2m cable from 12V transformer to 20W bulb. How do I start calculating it for daisy-chained cables? Is it simply determining the load on each cable section and calculating the voltage drop over each section and then summing...
